How can spambots register?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Insert disk 22 and press button to continue.
Since this signature affects old posts, I'm leaving a message here in case anyone searches for my username. This account died in early 2013. I am no longer a fundamentalist.

Don't add to my problems by pretending my past views are still held in the present. I do not have any patience for that. Feel free to ask me what I think now.

Only a matter of time before they gain sentience and the war begins.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

Since this is an open source board, the spammers will be able to examine the source code for exploits. I'm sure they will be able to find a way to fire a request at the server that fools it into thinking that they have passed the captcha and question so that it creates an account.

Another request will then be sent, fooling the server into thinking that their email address has been validated so that they can post.

captcha's are impossible to ocr accurately, but there is always another way around it :)

I know you are creative and all, but what kind of example are you setting for your son when you play with your food like that?

My favorite is the Google Bot because I just like the sound of it. Makes me think of a robot sitting at a computer being confused as hell about all of this "retro gaming" nonsense.
