You will like Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers. It's much more of a traditional plot driven point and click adventure than the puzzle driven myst/7th guest type games. But the story is great, the acting is great(Tim Curry, Mark Hamill, and more), the atmosphere is great, and the puzzles are pretty reasonable for a Sierra game. Easily one of the all time classics, do not miss this one.
As for text adventures, I've mostly played Infocom and Legend games where sci fi/fantasy are more common themes. It appears that Scott Adams published a few horror themed games, but I couldn't tell you how they are.
