With a Duo RX you can play all Japanese cards except Supergrafx games and all US and J CD games except Arcade ones. With an Arcade card you can play all CD games.

Feel free to stick around and contribute. PC Engine isn't quite at the top of my list just yet (gotta save up a little bit for it first), but I expect within the next couple of years to start seriously on the hunt.

Tehtriggerman wrote:Hi everyone. Long time lurker and veteran gamer. One console (aside from Neo Geo) That intimidated me was the PC-Engine. The games always amazed me but the numerous configs drove me away...So long Story Short I did alot of reading wwhich drove a purchase and Im still a little confused. I got a NIB PRO-DUO RX which I know was the last production of this type (after PC-FX)

My Question is: Since this is the last one..Does it need any addtional cards to run everything? Arcade Cd's..Super Cd's..ETC or can it all do that being that last console run?
Elabit and others beat me to it. He loves the PC Engine as much as me, if not more. He's a regular over at PCEngineFX.com. I'll just be repeating what others have said.

Anywhooooo...

I can tell you are new at this since you called it a "Pro-Duo RX". Did you get some Neo Geo and PC Engine mixed up? :P hehe No worries, it does get pretty confusing. Welcome to the site, by the way!

The Duo-RX is a very nice system. It is exactly the same as the Duo-R except it has slightly different stylings and originally came with a 6-button controller. It has no major issues with it, so that's a good thing. It has the System 2.0 and System 3.0 (Super CD) cards built in, so you can play about 96% of the games on it.

The only original cards that would be needed to play everything would be the Arcade Card and a System 1.0 card. The Arcade card is required for Arcade CD games like Sapphire (which is a $300+ game anyway, unless you don't mind getting a second print copy with no case/manual), some very nice Neo Geo ports of fighters, a good version of Strider and a few other games you probably wouldn't care about. Both the Arcade Card Duo and Pro** will work, so get whichever is cheaper (Duo, generally) if you decide to buy one. The System 1.0 card is only needed for the CD version of Altered Beast. Don't bother with it, as you can also get a HuCard version of Altered Beast... or just play the Genesis version.

Of course, you can't play the 5 (+2 enhanced PCE games) Super Graphx games on a Duo. You would need a Super Grafx for that.

So... Neo Geo next? What would you like to know? We aren't all bad at Neo-Geo.com. :D
Will you go AES, MVS or CD?
