I wouldn't call it "much" faster. "Somewhat" faster would be a much better word to use.
If load times are too much for someone on the NGCD, I would say an MVS set up would be the most cost effective way to get Neo Geo stuff with no loading. AES also works, but some of the titles are extremely expensive.
I've heard that the Neo Geo CD has massive load times (like 60 seconds between matches for fighting games). The CD reader speed is 1x, so... I dunno it just doesn't seem worth it to me.
Then sorry, but you just have not done your research properly. The majority of fighting games are NOT like this. Late ones like Last Blade are (and basically unplayable as a result), but more common ones like Samurai Shodown 1, 2, most Fatal Fury games, World Heroes games, the first few KoF games, etc., are not really much worse than a Sega CD or PS1 game.
If you are hardcore enough to be wanting Last Blade on an SNK console, then you probably know all this and have or are looking for the MVS or AES versions
