I actually thought it was the Final Fantasy stuff that was tacky. I think the game could have been a huge success with just Disney characters and the Squarsoft name backing it. I had mixed feelings about how they whored out the FF characters to try and generate more salesbrunoafh wrote:It's very easy to play and get into. It's actually a pretty fun ARPG to be honest, although the Disney stuff was a bit tacky for me. I showed the game to an ex back in the day that wasn't into video games in any way, and she absolutely loved it and ended up beating it and the sequel on her own. So yeah, it can be a good starter RPG for some I would say.
It's a great starter action rpg though. Has some of my favorite boss fights of all time

I agree wholeheartedly. I think both Disney and Squenix are missing a gigantic GAPING opportunity here. Kingdom Hearts would instantly become a better game without the Final Fantasy in it. Disney has so many characters and worlds that are rife for video game exploration, and yet here we are.Gamerforlife wrote:I actually thought it was the Final Fantasy stuff that was tacky.

On the one hand I back this notion, but I understand Square wanting to milk their properties.irixith wrote:I agree wholeheartedly. That said, to anyone thinking that the Disney stuff is tacky, very well. But I urge you to continue playing until you make it to the most incredible boss battle in the game: Night on Bald Mountain. All I'm saying.

Honestly I thought the entire game was tacky. Just has a really goofy feel to it that I didn't like. The only thing that saves it (for a player like me that doesn't really like any of the subject matter) is that the gameplay itself is actually quite good.Gamerforlife wrote:I actually thought it was the Final Fantasy stuff that was tacky.

I see what you did there.

It's easily one of the best.
There's no confusing character creation with 7 different stats to worry about, all your leveling up is automatically done for you based off of some simple multiple choice questions done at the beginning of the game.
The best weapon to use is pretty much always the one with the highest attack power. You can successfully get through the whole game without ever buying new weapons for your allies and never having to buy equipment for anyone.
The combat consists of hitting the X button. Then hitting it again. And then again. And then maybe pressing the button to use a special attack if you feel like getting fancy.
Etc, etc...

The only problem with Kingdom Hearts as your first RPG is you're going to have to wait a few years for Kingdom Heart 3 haha.

I played it a few years ago. Got stuck in the whale. The camera was horrible and there was a spot where I had to jump without being able to see where I would land. Never got passed it. Never played it again. Never looked back either...
