should i get a master system or turbo grafx 16??
Re: should i get a master system or turbo grafx 16??
I voted TG16 I like the system better overall just games arent easy to come by.
If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.

If you have a Power Base or the Everdrive MD, you can play SMS games on the Genesis (the PB uses real games, but the Everdrive MD uses ROM images, the latter being good if you wanna play translated or hacked games, but I heard it can't do games that use FM music).
If you have a MasterGear Converter or the Everdrive GG, you can play SMS games on the Game Gear.
With TurboGrafx games, you're pretty much stuck with the actual system. The system also has a CD attachment with no copy protection.
I'd go with the TurboGrafx 16 if you have a Genesis or Game Gear.
The only bonus with the Wii is that the best possible video option is component, whereas the SMS and TurboGrafx are both capable of composite at best. But this is only relevant for HDTV owners.

The Wii doesn't have EVERY game. And then there's hacks and translations.Bikeage wrote:How about getting a Wii and downloading all of the SMS and TG16 games?

Turbo by FARRRRRRRR...
BUT, really, the Japanese version of the Turbo (PC Engine) is much better. Games are also cheaper from Japan. So, get a local Master System and then, when you get more cash, get a PC Engine with Super CD capabilities (a PC Engine Duo is the easiest way to do this).
So, in all honesty, if you have both available locally, get a Master System. UNLESS there is a good and affordable selection of Turbo games. You will probably get cheaper, short term, fun out of the SMS. You will have long term, everlasting fun, out of the Turbo (actually, the PC Engine).
A lot of the SMS hits are available on the Turbo and are superior on the Turbo. Outrun, Fantasy Zone, Afterburner, Thunder Blade, Space Harrier, etc., are all on the Turbo (and compatible, often superior, to the Genesis/MD versions). Even the Wonderboy games are on the Turbo (import). There are a lot of exclusives on the Turbo/PC Engine that BLOW AWAY any SMS exclusives.
Basically, the SMS has been super-ceded by other systems, while the Turbo/PC Engine is an essential system to own for a retro gamer.
Hope that helps.

You can mod a Turbo for better video options. The only bonus with the Wii is that the best possible video option is component, whereas the SMS and TurboGrafx are both capable of composite at best. But this is only relevant for HDTV owners.

Both would be ideal, but if I had to choose between the Master System and TG16 US libraries I'd have to go with the Master System. Opening both systems up to imports makes the decision much more difficult.
The TG16/PCE is definitely the one to get if shooters are your main genre preference and it is obviously technically superior in every way. The Master System may have more western oriented games in other genres, though I haven't counted. I own over 60 Master System games and less than 30 PCE/TG16/CD games, but that is mostly because of the high price of the later.

Eh, I was always a Sega fan, had all 3 major consoles and the Gamegear as a kid. Seems to me like Sega stuff is way easier to come by.
I always wanted a TG16, was going to trade my bike to a dude for one, but never worked out.
I played Splatterhouse on it in 99 and it was pretty kick ass actually.
