Modding an oXbox?

to the TC, i suggest you read up. There are a few threads around here that detail what you want to do. you're definitely in the right section here. A few months ago, i installed a 2 TB HDD in my oXbox ( and chronicled it here) Couple that with XBMC and you have one hella media box. Why mess with a chip, when soft mod is so much easier???

Like I said, I never got too into the whole oXbox mod scene. But last I heard, swapping hard drives on a chipped Xbox was easy as pie. Whereas swapping on a soft mod'ed console was a process of unlocking and locking drives. And I couldn't seem to find a tutorial that made it seem easy to do.

That's pretty much correct. Anything you can do with a chipped Xbox you can do with a softmodded Xbox, it just takes a little technical gymnastics to swap the hard disk. Anyone who has built a PC and installed an operating system should have the skills needed to do the hdd swap. Which one you choose depends on how much skill, free time, and disposable income you have available.

Like I said, I never got too into the whole oXbox mod scene. But last I heard, swapping hard drives on a chipped Xbox was easy as pie. Whereas swapping on a soft mod'ed console was a process of unlocking and locking drives. And I couldn't seem to find a tutorial that made it seem easy to do.

the easiest tutorial i found involved downloading the lock/unlock program and burning to a cdr, changing your computer to boot from your cd/dvd drive with your new hdd plugged to it, then running the program. all and all you just have to work from the materials you got. i could never find a flashdrive that would load the action replay splinter cell save exploit where my oxbox would read it so i used my memory card inside my controller and spliced a male usb to it to plug up to the computer, after that put a new breakaway cable back on and softmodded that bitch.

Same way I did it. Xbox controllers are just bog standard USB. The action replay software will just see the memory card in the controller as if it was one of those memory card -> USB action replay adaptors.
