RPGs are about personalizing your experience by customizing your character. Inventory choices are a major way you do that. The lack of any sort of economy is a big downside.
And game length? If it was a great game it would have left you wanting more. I finished Persona 3 after over 100 hours and I still want more. The only reason I'm not playing Persona 4 right now is that I want to wait a bit to savor it better.
Interesting opinion.
This is one of my favorite games and I think you'll really enjoy it but as you can read, everyone has their own opinion.
I think PDS was the first RPG I played through. It blew my mind and I still consider it one of the greatest games ever made, despite being short/easy. I dream of another PD RPG being made some day...
BoneSnapDeez,
How are you going to be playing your Jpn "Azel" version of the game? Do you have an import system, or do you plan to use/try that AR code?
This is easily one of my favorite RPGs. I'm replaying it right now, for the first time on my HDTV using a RGB to HDMI adapter.
I put it down for a couple of weeks and picked it up again while the four year old was at a party. He came back home while I had paused the game to answer an email. He heard the music and gasped "Daddy, your playing the Dragon game!?" It was pretty awesome that he was that excited.
A 20 hour game can turn into a month long excursion for me these days, I just don't like playing one game for all that long in one sitting.

Right now I have an American system, I'll try the AR code. If I have no luck I'll consider modding or buying Japanese.
I just modded my Saturn and this was the first game I tried out. So far I like it and I think the atmosphere is what will make me come back to it. Given, I need to give it more time but if it weren't for the story or atmosphere I think it would probably sit there collecting dust. The gameplay is nothing amazing.
