I think the real question is...
Do you use bombs?

I have a PAR 4-in-1, so I can play the majority of JP Saturn games easily. I also have a backwards compatible 60gb Ps3, so Ps2 games are definitely on the table, though I kinda want to focus on expanding my Dreamcast and Saturn libraries if that's okay with you guys.
Thanks for all the replies so far guys!
Not right now, though I do kinda casually play at a lot of fighters, so I'd be willing to get one down the road.dsheinem wrote:do you have an arcade stick? they really do make all the difference...

Apple, I know you wanna expand yr DC/Sat libraries, but when yr interested in taking a shmup crack at the BC PS3 let me know. Between PS1, PS2 and the US and JPN PSN you have a lot to work with. And for cheap! A USB stick will work on the PS1 and PSN games... sadly not on the PS2 games.

I don't use a stick for anything but the DC, and only because I hate the DC controller.
But, if you have the option to play ps2 games, there are some great ones for dirt cheap, especially Castle Shikigami 2
My highest recommendations would be
Soukyugurentai
Gunbird 2
Castle Shikigami 2
You could play those 3 games for a long time.

Well if you wanna throw some suggestions my way I'm all ears.noiseredux wrote:Apple, I know you wanna expand yr DC/Sat libraries, but when yr interested in taking a shmup crack at the BC PS3 let me know. If/When I get a stick I'll probably look into either building from scratch or modding it for an all-in-one solution (or nabbing a bunch of adapters or whatever).
Weird on the ps2/USB thing though. I could've sworn I'd used usb controllers on ps3 to play ps2 games before, but I might be mistaken.

yeah, Castle Shikigami 2 is easily one of my all time favorites. On PS2 it's like $6. On Dreamcast it's about $100.

PS1:AppleQueso wrote: Well if you wanna throw some suggestions my way I'm all ears.
Mobile Light Force (aka Gunbird)
Einhander
Shooter Space Shot
Gekioh
Raiden
R-Type Delta
R-Types
PS2:
Mobile Light Force 2 (aka Castle Shikigami)
Castle Shikigami 2
Raiden III
Gradius III & IV
Gradius V
R-Type Dimensions
Silpheed
that's off the top of my head and I'm sure all of those can be had for less than $30, most for less than $20, and most most most for less than $10.
plus there's PSN which is a wealth of PS1 imports baby.

OK, I've heard rumors that there is one specific adapter that people have gotten to work on PS2 games. If you find it, please tell buy it for me.

This is the case for a lot of DC shmups. Trizeal, Ikaruga, Radirgy, Psyvariar 2, shiki 2. All way pricey for the DC, but much cheaper in their later ports. Some people will tell you that its because the DC versions are the best, but this isn't true for each game.noiseredux wrote:yeah, Castle Shikigami 2 is easily one of my all time favorites. IMO, the best port ever of Shiki 2 is the US ps2 release. On top of hilarious translations, you get about as many options as you would have on the pcb, including bullet speed control, and options I haven't even messed with yet.
The DC does have VGA, which would explain why they go for a primium still. I personally am fine with component ps2 ports, if its going to save me like $300 in the end

Mobile Light Force (gunbird) is AWFUL. Do yourself a favor and buy the saturn port, NOT that crap-ass psx port.
Raiden project is a good suggestion though. Although, in the US release, you need a code to unlock TATE mode. Still, great ports.
