CD AGES wrote:CVS has an incredible presentation and wonderful asthetics with super simple gameplay that can be picked up rather quickly. The sequel lacks the wonderful presentation of the first game but has a more technical gameplay that resembles capcom fighting titles.

CvS's presentation, at least in the menu design and whatnot, just gives me a headache honestly. It's actually TOO flashy imho. I much prefer the overall look of CvS2.

^ to each their own I suppose. I've always been more fond of the first games presentation and character select screen... it looks so original and over the top. It really complimented the epic crossover that many have only dreamt about between to fighting dynasties.

I'd go with 2 over 1. It's my favorite fighting game next to SF3. Though...my only beef is some of the character sprites, (Morgan for instance). I just wish they could've put a little more work into evening out the sprites and make them look not so pixelated.

Well if you do go VGA for CVS 1 or 2, hopefully those Hi res backgrounds will help a bit with those old 2D sprites. If not Play Gulty Gear X on VGA :)

First off, CvS2 is the greatest 2D fighter IMO.

The game charactor sprites do suffer visually when using the VGA on a DC. So does the arcade, so there is no point to complain about it. MvC2 is no different. Run it old school or just deal with it.

I ran CvS2 on DC for tourneys for a long time, but the speed difference and folks having controllers made me switch to PS2.

"Speed difference"?

I've only ever played CvS2 on DC very briefly, but I didn't notice any speed differences...

...of course I'm not a particularly good fighting game player, so it's possible that I just wouldn't notice things like that.

The speed issue is a problem that lies with every port of CVS2 and PS2 is no exception! Basically the Game speed by default in console ports is faster compared to arcade version. To my recollection in tourney play, you just change the game speed to 2 stars as oppose to 3. You get a tad slower speed than the arcade version but it's closer to game speed played in the arcade. GCN and Xbox ports are not tourney worthy whatsoever due to the removal of the Kara roll bug. I also hear the re-release of CVS2 in japan for PS2 has this issue as well. Never made sense to me why capcom did this :/
