Re: Transformers… Go Bots?
Transformers vs GoBots should have been a movie, toy line, tv show... ehhh, if you grew up back then GoBots clearly sucked compared to Transformers, but there were a few cool ones.

I have Red Alert, but in retrospect I would have rather gotten Sunstreaker from the Countache cars.fastbilly1 wrote:Im going the other way. Since I love Sunstreaker and Sideswipe, Im looking at buying a Countach replica or kit.
You could always build a Countache in your basement.

My friends all send me that link. Honestly, I dont know enough about cars to build one, I really dont trust myself with that. A good friend of mine has alot of connections in the car world so once I get enough money set aside for a replica I will get him to find me one. I want a Countach or a Mercedes SSK replica. The Countach replicas go for 20k+, while the SSKs go for 6-20k. The SSK is a crusing car though.Hobie-wan wrote:I have Red Alert, but in retrospect I would have rather gotten Sunstreaker from the Countache cars.fastbilly1 wrote:Im going the other way. Back on topic.
Go-Bots are silly, Transformers, specifically G1, are awesome. You cannot get better than making a movie with the sole purpose to kill of the old characters to sell new ones, and have Orson Welles as the villain. Though if you really break it down, Transformers, Gi-Joe, Mask, Jem, Inhumannoids, and now Go Bots are all in the same universe. Transformers and GI Joe had the awesome crossover comic series in the 80s. Transformers, GI Joe, Jem, and Inhumanoids all have the same reporter - Hector Ramirez, reporting on global events. And in the late 2000s, Hasbro released Matt Tracker as a GI Joe character and in his bio it stated that VENOM was part of COBRA all this time.
There the 80s are all one now.

Eh, I think they're just different. Large G1 cars are obviously the coolest, but looking at the smaller TF cars and Gobots you had SD vehicles with plastic wheels (except Bumblebee) versus realistic ones with rubber tires. I think the Super Gobots were mostly pretty good too. Defendor is really badass looking. Also as much as I like Bumblebee, Bug Bite is pretty cool looking and bigger.fastbilly1 wrote:Go-Bots are silly, Transformers, specifically G1, are awesome.

Re: Transformers… Go Bots?
They might have been used as a basis for transformers and go-bots but they are not the same thing. There is a big difference between a vehicle and a sentient being.Hobie-wan wrote:That is just wrong.![]()
Machine Robo (Gobots here) were 1982
Diaclone (became Transformers) were 1980
The funny thing is Hasbro owns only the trademarks for Go-Bots. But these have been around for quite some time. The first time I saw the playskool transformer/go-bot line was when I worked at K-mart which was either late 2002 or early 2003, I don't remember if I saw them after or before christmas 2002. I was happy to see the name go-bots again but didn't like the association with transformers.
Anybody else have Power Warrior Courageous. I woke up one christmas to find him built and filled with go-bots on the coffee table by the half eaten cookies and glass of milk.

Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.

Am I the only one here who preferred Gobots as a kid? I did have a bunch of transformers toys, but I always went with Gobots when I was little in the 80s.

Re: Transformers… Go Bots?
As t was my understanding, Mattell or whoever owns Transformers bought the rights to Gobots. I used to watch both cartoons when I was a kid, but Transformers always seemed better. It retrospect, I watched some old Transformers episodes and I can't believe how thin everything seems.
