I don't even know why he is in the game or his name is on the box. He has absolutely nothing to do with the plot and gets no special recognition.

This is in no way a Spyro game. It is just a game that happens to have a dragon looking character with the name Spyro.

I wish they had just left him out. The other characters all have cool names and themes. Spyro as a name does not fit. They could have kept the character design, but gave him a "normal" name, like "Dragon Breath" or whatever.

Wouldn't be surprised if this game was a non-spyro project that had spyro tacked on late to help with sales or something.

It's the reverse. It was originally a more complex Spyro game aimed for adult players, but they decided to switch because it felt too mature for a "Spyro game". The scrapped everything and started over with this toy concept.

I am very interested in this, despite my loathing of the new Spyro design and voice... I'll most likely end up getting the wii version when I have the chance, just to expand my collection.

It has a retail price of $70, except for the PC version which is $60 for some reason.

You get the game, plus three figures, plus the "portal of power". So the price is not out of line with any other new release, just don't expect the price to drop like a normal game.

One thing I didn't mention is "Spyro's Universe", which is an online rendition of the game. It isn't much like the console version. It is more of a set of mini-games with a customizable and upgradable "lair". It also has an MMO aspect in that everyone on the server can meet in a central area or visit other players' lairs.

You use the portal and figures to unlock characters just as in the console game.

Surprisingly great, but still a cynical way to extract cash from kids.
