Chapter 1 took me about 2 hrs I'd estimate? There's 8 chapters. Not sure if that means anything though.

The audio is terrible, but I just got this game last week and thought it was fitting to play a Sega game on a Sega console.
Playing the same version also.

Good to know I'm not the only one who got a head start. Only made it to Chapter 2 luckily before I realized it was the November TR.

I'll be playing the good old Genesis version on my newly s-video modded Genesis 1. 8)

...hopefully the battery save doesn't decide to call it quits...

I started this game last year right before the TR calendar was announced. I was on chapter 3 when I stopped and just finished chapter 4 today once I noticed we started TR for November. Oh, and I decided to just continue the save file on the Wii's VC.

What are all of you doing about promoting? The first time I played through this game I promoted every character at level 10. This time I am waiting until I get special weapons for them and most seem to be around 14-15 before I promote them.

I wondered if I should have put this on the article, the only slightly unintuitive thing IMO is to equip stuff you need to click on an empty spot (not on the item you want to equip) with it in the inventory.

Other than that, very enjoyable game so far (although so far at least I prefer the Fire Emblem game I played over this - may be an unfair comparison as this one is the first Shining Force game - even if I'm playing the remake - and the Fire Emblem I played is the 7th in the series - although the first English-localized one I think).

I think I'll give this a go! Currently playing FF6 but hopefully I'll get that finished soon!

I'm a big fan of strategy games like this. Stuff like FF Tactics and Tactics Ogre just makes me really happy. I just love these kind of RPG Chess Games, y'know? One thing I will say about Shining Force is that it seems like there's a lot of patience involved. You can easily spend a dozen moves just placing your party without actually doing anything. This isn't a bad thing though. Like I said, I love these kind of games. They're heavy relaxation titles for me.

Agreed. It's a good game to sit back with a cup of tea and have at it. Even though it's the first and arguably worst of the SF games, the first one still holds up pretty well in my opinion.

having never played any of them, I'm really loving this one. I think I'll definitely investigate more of the series in the future.
