Hater confession
Re: Hater confession
They released over a full year before the Playstation 2, the idea was to get a firm foothold by being the first next gen system, however Sony advertised the PS2 hard as well as Sony paying companies to release games exclusively for the PS2. A lot of people just waited for the PS2.
People had no faith in Sega after the 32X and Saturn, as well as big name publishers like EA not supporting the console.
Sega went down swinging.

To build on top of that, Sega actually announced in Jan. 2001 they were discontinuing and pulling out of the race.emwearz wrote: I would think the fact that the Dreamcast was discontinued in Mark 2001 and the Xbox was released in November 2001 would more than constitute solid. (The Gamecube came out in September 2001). Sega had done a lot of damage to itself via the SegaCD, 32X and Sega Saturn, there 3rd party support was an all time low. They simply made too many bad choices in a short period of time. Read up about it or watch a retrospective online, it is fairly well documented. The Dreamcast even with its record breaking release, was doomed from the get go and would have taken something very special to put Sega back on track.
In short it was cancelled before the Xbox and Gamecube even hit store shelves, Sega could not even compete in a 2 console race, let alone a 3.
Anyways, Sega's biggest failure was management and communication, the American and Japanese sides of the company didn't have very good communication, which ended up causing things such as the 32x.
Anyways, I don't "hate" Nintendo, but I don't really care for most of their IP. I like Metroid, I like Mario, and I like some of the Zelda games. Nothing else of theirs really interests me. There's really no reason to hate on a game console, they usually just cater to a different audience.

Re: Hater confession
It helped them more than it hurt them and they pulled out at the right time. The DC had a short successful run (in the US anyway). I believe they were initially going to make the DC have DVD support but opted for GD-ROM for financial reasons stemming from the losses from the 32X and Saturn. The only reason why the PS2 sold as well as it did in Japan (sure it helped in North America as well) was because of DVD support.AznKhmerBoi wrote:^ so if SEGA company knew that they were heading towards to the ditch from earlier release of the 32x and Saturn .... why bother making the DC and wasting more money and instead develope softwares? Thus saving dev money of the DC and using it to expand it in the area software developement and making more progress and money.

And so another fanboy wakes from his slumber and sees that the brands aren't nearly as important as the games. Welcome to the light.Korpi wrote:I was typical Nintendo hater

Pretty sure that Sega and Microsoft's relationship was just fine. Sega was trying to get the XBox to be compatible with Dreamcast games in fact:

After the death of the Dreamcast the XBox got the best Sega titles right off. I don't see why this argument exists.

Probably if xbox wasn't around that time Dreamcast would have survived. I actually heard somewhere online that someone important from Sega passed away during Dreamcast life-span, that may have inflicted business. Overall after reading through 1up 23 eerie parallels seems xbox suspicious.

Re: Hater confession
Does it really have to explained again that if the Xbox wasn't around the Dreamcast still would have flopped? Those articles are nothing more than pointing out that one company had some great ideas and another company was trying to build on them. Also, that article is for the 360, not the original Xbox. Not to mention at least 3/4 of them are just bullshit coincidence.benderx wrote:Probably if xbox wasn't around that time Dreamcast would have survived. I love Sega but seriously come on. The Dreamcast's sales numbers basically died when the PS2 launched.
If any of you know how business is run, they probably had plans to pull out of the race around Oct of 2000 at least. Making a massive shift like that takes some time.

Re: Hater confession
Wii is the best console this generation. No contest. Most reliable hardware, best prices, perfect backwards compatibility, great JRPG library, fantastic action games, the best first party titles (Mario, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Metroid). Most people who crap on the Wii are fratboy shooter fans or graphics whores. They don't know what they're missing.

EDIT: Posted original message in wrong thread.
As for this thread, every console has it's own merits.

There are reasons to like the Wii, but this is a fail argument.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Wii is the best console this generation. No contest.
