When i think on gettin a console i think on their exclusives if the console has 10+ games i wanna i'll buy it.
I have been debating about or buyin a DS lite or a psp (so far the psp is winning because i don't like the stylus games that nintendo is trying out).

I tend to collect by developer. Not sure if that's completely related to the topic but there ya go.

I started doing that, but really only Nintendo and Konami interest me at the moment. Maybe Capcom, but can't do too many at a time.brunoafh wrote:I tend to collect by developer. Not sure if that's completely related to the topic but there ya go.

I do this for the GBA. It seems like the SNES 2 for me because of the snes re-releases and because the graphics and controls are very similar.
Also, I try and get exclusives on the Saturn and Dreamcast before other games.

I also collect by developer. But the only ones recently are Cave. I tend to collect some NIS America published too.

That's what I do. I don't care if a game is exclusive, I just want the best version.ZenErik wrote:I try to get the "best" version available on consoles. If its exclusive, fine. If its on 4 consoles i want the best version or versions. Sometimes there are more than one i want because each version might have its own special exclusive content.

Yeah, I definitely will get stuck on a certain dev, especially with shmups. First it was Cave, then Raizing, then Psikyo, then Toaplan, and now I'm buying every Compile shmup I can find.

Re: Collecting just platform-exlusives?
I've been saying for some time now how much I love the idea of console exclusives, even if they don't make financial sense for a developer or publisher.
They are such a big part of a console's identity, and ultimately, what it will be remembered for. Just to use an example, even though I don't like the series, look at what Uncharted has done for the PS 3.
Also, as others have said, I tend to want the best version of a multi-platform title, which means doing research. I love that I don't have to do any of that at all for a console exclusive. With multi-platform titles, it's especially annoying when you want something the day of release and it takes sites like digital foundry and lens of truth a week or two to tell you which version they think is better. I couldn't wait to get my hands on Batman Arkham City for example, and didn't have the patience to wait for those sites to post their results. So I said, "screw it. I like the PS 3 so I'll just get that version". I felt Arkham Asylum's combat worked better with the PS 3 controller in the first game anyway. More responsive

I did this in a way with my GameCube, Game Boy Advance, and Wii games. I only bought first-party Nintendo games. I figured there were more than enough to keep me busy and it made it easier to keep the number of purchases low.

Re: Collecting just platform-exlusives?
I dunno, I'm all over the place with what I buy.
I like to pick up the exclusives, but if a game is on more than system I'll generally get the best version.
Even then though, I've purchased the same game on multiple formats before. Though whether or not I do that really depends on the game.
As an example, I have both versions (DC and GC) of Sonic Adventure 2, but I only have the DC version of Grandia 2, and will never buy the PS2 version.
Sometimes I can't even give a reason. I tend to just buy what I want. That's why I could never focus on collecting for one console at a time. I'd get bored if I couldn't hop off to something else at some random moment.
