Really? You're complaining about special effects? Definetly nit-picking there. Because this show had movie-quality effects. So much so I'm worried that the budget, more than anything, is gonna get this show cancelled.DreamcastDude wrote: Then theres the part where they rip the side of the car off and the dino snags the kid by the ankle and just gnaws on it which looked super fake

If anything, it can't be as bad as the special effects of A Sound of Thunder...DreamcastDude wrote:Some parts of it were movie like but some like that part i pointed out earlier looks like special effects from the 80's but thats just 1 thing about it the terrible acting by just about everyone except for the grizzled sergent guy was another

Re: Terra Nova
I'll give this a chance but, wow, they couldn't wait to show you some dinosaurs huh?
The whole skyless bleak future part just went by and seemed really shoe-horned in.
Why do the whole 'third kid' thing only to try and write yourself out of it so fast?
For example, the whole breaking out of prison thing and bribing a guard with Obama money was oddly written and directed here. I kind of felt like a 5 year old was telling it over-excited.
"Its a city with loadsa fog stuff, then the good guy, well he hit the bad policeman, then the girl was found... 2 years later!... the mom gives him a magic laser in jail, he is in jail coz he hit that guy and the stork over delivered on kids, and they are gonna go to dinosaur land, then he breaks out, but don't know how, but he stabs his skin and a flashy thing pops out, then he gets into the facility and theres a kid in a backpack, its his!... then he fights some bad dudes and runs through the portal and Mr Avatar is there!...and, and DINOSAURS!!!... rawwrrrr. It was the best show ever... DISNOSAURS!" *catches breath*
I just felt that they could have spent more time in the bleak future so that stepping through to Terra Nova could have been more of an event.
Anyway, point is, the future they came from is or does seem to be important to the plot with the whole rebel sixers stuff. I really felt more time should have been spent in that bleak skyless future setting up a lot of tension before fast-forwarding us through the portal to dinosaur-ville.
Or better yet, if I was writing it. The father wouldn't have come and wouldn't have arrived in dino-ville for most if not all of Season 1. He would have been recruited by the sixers in the future (through jail connections where he was doing time) and tried to manipulate a way for them to bring him and his remaining daughter on the next portal journey. That would have setup some good tension for the wife being on the seemingly 'good' side and the husband conflicted over joining up with the sixers in order to get a ride to dino-land. It would have kept us in both the bleak future and scenes in the CGI fest and built a good tension and story between the groups for a final end of season finale meet up!
Eh well, I always give shows a chance. It not AS dumb as some but, lets see how it holds up. Still, you know... dinosaurs! Thats what we wanted anyway so they got us there fast.

Re: Terra Nova
I only made it to the first commercial break before turning it off. The acting sucked. The bleak future was cliche. "ooh!, an orange!". I've seen that same gag in Soylent green and The Road, which were both better.
The whole build up to Terra Nova seemed completely pointless. Why even bother with the whole prison escape concept if you're not going to do anything with it? The son had a line like "so dad's going to break out of a maximum security place and then break into another maximum security place?" Which he does by cutting a teacup in half with a laser and riding under a car.
The 'twist' that the girl was in the backpack that lead to the first break was obvious from the beginning, and I was wondering why they weren't having any trouble wearing that backpack. Then the son had a heartfelt goodbye with his girlfriend from behind a fence. . . wait, no he didn't. He just said bye and walked away. Great relationship.
Then there's the fact that this is a huge budget show on a major network, so it will have to get amazing ratings to stay on the air, which means the chances of the writing team being able to do anything interesting are slim to none.
Overall I wasn't entertained, and the first 20 minutes didn't give me any faith that the series will make it past december so it seemed like watching any more would be a waste of my time. I'll give it another chance if the hype keeps going beyond the premiere.

You watched 20 minutes of a 2 hour premier then proceed to rip it apart? That's like reading the first chapter of a book and saying the whole book sucked. The first 20 minutes is nothing like where the episode ended up.Jrecee wrote:I only made it to the first commercial break before turning it off. The acting sucked. The bleak future was cliche. and I thought this was going to be a thread about the 1996 pc game Terra Nova....lol
Re: Terra Nova
And to be clear I don't have any problem with people liking it if the premise appeals to you or it met your expectations. I had pretty low expectations going in but I was ready to turn my brain off for a couple hours, unfortunately it ended up below them. I stuck with Heroes til the end, if only because I had watched it from the beginning, and every few episodes there'd be some entertaining action. The show sucked, but certain elements appealed to me so I watched it anyway.BurningDoom wrote:You watched 20 minutes of a 2 hour premier then proceed to rip it apart? That is a joke right? Cause I'm not seeing any blue text...I only read the first page of The Great Gatsby before deciding it was the worst thing I'd ever read.
