I wasn't arguing with you. I was just providing another perspective. Majors and I have used Japanese consoles plugged into US power without issue, as have many other importers. I don't leave my system plugged in when I'm not playing either. A step down transformer is a good precaution yes, just saying that unless the console/brick is already on the verge of failure that it isn't going to blow up the first time is is plugged in. One could also just use a US brick that puts out the correct power for the system as well. This could be a cheaper solution depending on how many import consoles one has to deal with.

The Japanese DC I have specifically says it accepts 100-120V and 50/60 Hz on the bottom. Most modern (probably 2000ish or later) electronics will accept this range. The brick for my old laptop will accept 100-240V and 50-60 Hz power.

I didn't realize its transformer could accept 120V, so I stand corrected.

In the case of the Turbo and PC Engine situation, this would be a direct replacement, with the correct voltage. I linked to this before.

I've been using Japanese power supplies for years and never had any problems in terms of the differing voltages. I've only had one Japanese PSU fail on me, and that was because the cable developed a crick, not because of the different voltages.
