SMS has a few good games, but nothing worth buying a whole new system over. In general, most of the great games of that era came out on NES, not SMS. But there's still Alex Kidd in Miracle World.
He's got a genesis already and the SMS itself doesn't cost much more than a PBC.

Good thread discussion because I just got one and looking through the game selection there doesn't seem to be that much that interests me. There's a lot of arcade ports that have better versions available elsewhere so...IDK...so I'm looking at the exclusives and so far it is kinda meh. It's kinda like an 8 Bit Genesis, a system I was so enthralled with, I let my sister borrow it for her apartment up in Milwaukee. I just kinda wish I kept one of the controllers because I only have a 7800 controller that works with it, and well that controller is just garbage.

The start button is on the console, of course its worth owning! What other has system that?

Phantasy Star is a fantastic game. As an armband hater of JRPGs I still love this game. Everybody should give it a shot even though it's more convenient in the GBA collection. Wonderboy III: The Dragon's Trap is great despite its password system. That game is one of my all time favorites.

I'd rather own a Master System than an Atari 800 XL, that's for sure. :)

And the START button is NOT on the console. The PAUSE button is, however.

If you like old-school, 2D gaming, then hell yes it's worth getting. As far as the 8-bit systems go (Colecovision, NES, 5200, 7800, Master System, etc.) the Master System put out the prettiest graphics. Plus you don't get that annoying blinkiness from it that you do the NES (however IMO NES is still the better system, don't get me wrong).

But best of all is the games. Master System may not have as good of a library of games as the NES has, but it still has a great library and is arguably in 2nd place for 8-bit system's libraries. It has a lot of great arcade ports for the time.

-After Burner
-Altered Beast
-Batman Returns
-Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
-Cloud Master
-Columns
-Double Dragon (Different from NES game)
-Golden Axe
-Golden Axe: Warrior
-Golvellius: Valley of Doom
-Hang-On
-Ninja Gaiden (Different from NES game)
-Phantasy Star
-R-Type
-Shinobi
-Sonic the Hedgehog (Different from the Geneis game)
-Space Harrier
-Spider-Man
-Streets of Rage
-Zaxxon 3D

I know, is it worth trading in a TurboGrafx-16 for a Sega 32X and Master system?
