Yeah, I'd say it's happening. Just look at the cost of games like the Star Wars: Jedi Knights series, the Phoenix Wright series, and just about every PS1 RPG ever.

Thank you for that. I had a good laugh. Similarly I love when there's ebay auctions of really common games and just because they're old the auction claims the games are rare and valuable.TornadoCreator wrote:I had an argument recently with my dad who's selling an NES he bought at a car-boot sale online. He's convinced the original Zelda is rare because he's "looked online" and my cousin told him so... I've said to him, "OK, fine, go on any collectors site and say Legend of Zelda is rare and watch as you get laughed at. Next you'll be telling me Mario Bros/Duck Hunt is rare", but it doesn't phase him he just casually says "Fine, I know how much it's worth" and I always say irritatingly "Yes! FUCK ALL!". One time I lost my temper and shown him eBay how there where about 20 copies all going for about £10 more than half of which had the box and book, which he doesn't... still it's gold, it must be rare... damn fool.Hazerd wrote:Im waiting for Zelda games to become "hard to find/rare"![]()

Resellers don't always apply logic to their sales tactics. I've been on the hunt for broadcast monitors, and it's always a laugh to see "I paid $1000 for this monitor five years ago, selling at $500 for a steal!" It's a thirty year old monitor - you got hosed five years ago!
As for the topic, sure. I've seen the cycle go on and on over the years, and just as the more popular games have plateaued, so too will the lesser games. It's a pretty gradual shift, since the likelihood of collectors being in the same place as the same time is relatively low. Some are more likely to be in a similar proximity, which is when this kind of price shifting occurs.
I never realized Splatterhouse was a less popular game. It's always been touted as one of the flagship ports for the PC Engine.
