N64 for the nintendo and rare stuff plus a some other titles. A lot of great multiplayer games are on the n64. I really enjoy 3d platformers and like fps fine enough so the n64 has a great selection for me.

Saturn for the amazing arcade atmosphere in many games and for allowing up to ten players.

Since both PS2/3 aren't 5th generation consoles, this flaw is out of the equation.

The two consoles would be:

PS1: has a great overall library of games that met my gaming needs back in the day. Back when Square was Squaresoft, Tekken 3 made a near perfect arcade translation, when Tony Hawk games were awesome, and I had a wealth of Bemani games.

Saturn: pure arcade experience at home. Really was a next gen 2D powerhouse. Great support from Treasure. Sports probably thee best dpad in gaming history. And the wealth of excellent shmups.

Definitely was considering the N64

I chose the N64 and PS1, mostly because I haven't owned the other 3 yet.

Other than that, the N64 seems more reliable, and would probably last the longest. And the PS1, as everybody said, has such a large library of great titles.

I think the JAG is misunderstood a bit, its not in my top 2 here - but I have to fight for it a bit. The graphics w/s-vid support out the box to boot, are very solid. Some people read a review and come out thinking it was Tempest and a bunch of crap, not the case.

Iron Soldier, Atari Karts, Alien v. Predator and Towers II were all very solid releases and are reasons to invest in a Jaguar. The controller is a love/hate thing.

I figured once you get too many choices, the actual results are going to be too skewed to mean anything. So I did leave NGCD out. The rationale, I would think anyone who would choose NGCD would've first chosen Saturn since they are pretty similar (yes, arbitrary, yes not everyone would feel that way).

Ditto for me except that I do have a Saturn which would be my 3rd choice if allowed. N64 is my top choice because of Paper Mario 64, Super Mario 64, and the two Zelda games.

Nintendo 64 and Saturn for me.

The PS1 does have a million great games but I prefer the N64 and Saturn over it. 3DO is nice but nowhere near the level of the others. The Jaguar doesn't interest me at all.

The N64 is the king of local multiplayer. Games like Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong Racing, Smash Brothers, Starfox 64, Goldeneye and Snowbow Kids are just so fucking fun. I also think cartridges are better than CDs.

The Saturn has tons of great games, including Shining Force III, which by itself completely destroys everything on the PS1. I love many Saturn games but Shining Force III is extremely special to me. I have played through scenario 1 about 5 times. Sadly, I have yet to play the other scenarios but I will when I have a lot of free time to dedicate to it.

I used to play Shining Force III so much, my Saturn would often overheat. The last time I played it I didn't let anyone die. If a character died, I would reload my save. I even leveled up Penn without letting him die.

No, it isn't.

Logically, to me, it's a matter of library, and in that respect I'd pick the PS1 over any of the others there. It's easily the most expansive, at least for the U.S.

However, if I were getting rid of three out of five of those specific consoles, I'd not keep the PS1. I don't need to. I've got a PS2 and a couple PS3s that can play most any PS1 game I want.

With that as the case, I'd keep the N64 and the Saturn. The N64's library is fairly unique, since it wasn't well suited for porting games over from the PS1/Saturn/DC. The Saturn is better for certain genres, and does have unique titles as well.

The Jaguar and 3DO each have relatively few standout games, and even among those many were cross-platform.

Were there some additional restriction to ignore other ways to play PS1 games, I'd say PS1 and N64.

This is almost exactly how I feel. I would definitely miss a lot of my favorite RPGs on the PS, but I'd survive.
