strangely PSP is freezing this ROM too (a different version of the ROM even). Hopefully my DC will run it.

I'm not really into the emulation scene but I'm thinking the Genesis emulator does multiplayer (lot of NHL '94 leagues out there) fairly well if we want to do a Classic Home Run Derby playoff or something.

I should have written "really, really redundant", as that would have actually been funny. That said, I did enjoy reading your entry.

If you're still interested in writing a blog, perhaps WordPress may not be the way to go. Not sure how much you are looking to spend, but hosting a site with a simple word/jpeg cms should be fairly affordable.

for some reason this is a tough game to emulate I guess. Had no luck on PS2, PSP or DC. Oh well.

The audio in this game is just brutal. Unfortunately, turning off the halting PA announcing also turns off the umpire calls.

Also, why did programmers think a steady stream of static represented crowd noise at a baseball game? The otherwise excellent Baseball Advance suffers from the same problem.

"He's outta there!!"

One of my favorite umpire calls when the computer routinely over-runs the base and you can throw them out after the play. A weird glitch that carried over from the first game.

The pitchy announcer and the bad crowd noise is definitely a lowlight of the game - although I like the opening title screen jam.

Time to give PC emulation a shot?

I was thinking going into the month - there's no way this will be less popular than Populous, but i'm growing wary.

Anybody want to talk about the historical significance of Bill Swift being on the cover (it's somewhat random)? Yeah, didn't think so. 8)

Why not? I'm bored. :D

When did this game come out? I know it's World Series '95, but does that mean it came out in '94? If so, Billy Swift had just come off a career year (okay, pretty much the only notable year of his pro career) going 21 and 8 with a 2.82 ERA on an excellent SF Giants team. Didn't make the playoffs because they got edged out by a game by the Braves despite winning 103 games. The wildcard wouldn't come into play for 2 more years, but if it had been around in '93, the Giants' championship drought might have ended 17 years later.

Swift was just okay in '94. Slightly better than .500, but with a decent ERA. After that, he stunk on ice.

Edit: Looks like it actually came out in June of 1995. Swift wasn't even a Giant anymore! He signed with the Rockies in April of that year (because of the lockout). Probably too late to update the box and label art, but it would have been a good idea to pick someone who wasn't likely to sign with a new team! The game was outdated on day one! Well, I bet he was an economical choice.

Nice - Swift definitely was a catalyst in '93 for the Giants team that won 100+ games but lost out on the last day of the season to the Braves.

Hmm, release dates are tough to track down - I saw it as December '94 for North America, where Swift would make sense because of the strike-shortened '94 year. Looks like that could be the Game Gear date? (per IGN and wiki).

I do see where it says summer '95 for the Genesis version which seems off as you noted around Swift.

Sports game releases would be much more streamlined years later. It's tough to find accurate information (I struggled with this for the article).

i've played a game of world series baseball on the genesis. no 95 at the end, though. just world series baseball.

i have enjoyed baseball games in past, mainly the arcadey ken griffey series, but i really can't get into this one. it's just too slow. having to select a pitch, speed, and location is a pain in the ass. all i want to do is press the C button once and be done with it. and if you want to put a reliever in you have to warm him up in the bullpen.

the controls were nice, though. everything felt nice and played well.
if you took a shit, please put it back
