Games within games (let's make a list)

I'm not really thinking of mini-games, though. More like what I posted above -- a video game that you play within the video game.

I think the retro arcade games in Shenmue should still count, since your character literally walks into the arcade and puts in-game money into the machine.

Flamepanter's examples were pretty good, but I'm familiar with none. Can you flesh them out a bit -- give titles/screenshots or anything?

I can't find any screen shots of the arcade game in Super Scribblenauts, but here are the others:

Paddle War!
You can play this from the main menu (which is all done on Keen's wrist computer, just like the mini-game) or while pausing the main game. No explanation of the gameplay should really be necessary.


Beetle Mania!
This is a handheld videogame that exists in the gameworld of Super Mario RPG. It's a simple shooter you can play for a high score:


Eggman's Sonic Sim
This is played at the arcade planet in Sonic Colors. It's basically the same gameplay as the rest of the game, but with more spartan graphics. It's essentially the game's multi-player mode, and also functions as a set of single-player time attack challenge stages.

^those are awesome Flamepanther, thanks! I'm not counting the Shenmu stuff because I'm specifically looking for games that are ONLY available in other games. Not emulations of games. We already have threads about unlocking retro games in newer games.

No More Heros has Pure White Giant Glastonbury. It's a scrolling shooter where you get infinite lives. It's initially played in a dream sequence but after that it's accessible throughout the whole game from the motel room.
