I have a launch JP DC and even from the first day I booted it up I thought it was loud. IMO it's just as bad as any other DC (I have a later JP model and a US model as well).pakopako wrote:Also the Japanese systems (the early ones) were quieter (used a different GDROM layout was that I remember hearing)

There are a good number of great japanese exclusives that I'd consider must haves for a DC collection. Ok they're all shmups, but still must haves.
But I think getting a JP Dreamcast would just mean more time spent swapping boot discs since the majority of games you'd want have ntsc versions, so it's not really worth it.
Unless you were planning on dropping the big bucks on a red seaman console, then I fully support you in crazy spending!

I own a japanese DC, I used codebreaker to play US and EU games. My collection is a nice mix of all three regions.

... just saying
Purely asthetics, which there is nothing wrong with

Yep. I get the JP sticker & serial # instead of the US one. I had both at one point side by side. Cannot tell the difference unless you're trying to boot a game. The language for the menu system is programmable more or less the same in all regions with about 10 languages to choose from.dunpeal2064 wrote:Which can also be accomplished with a US consolegennss wrote:I own a japanese DC, I used codebreaker to play US and EU games. It might be a very small thing, but I like how this looks on a Japanese DC

I don't like the solid grey look on the US DC

PSone, Xbox, PS2, DC, SS Mod Service, PM for details

The official Sega Lightguns work on NTSC-US systems. I have two guns (imported on from Europe and Japan) and I've tried them on 2 Dreamcasts. You just need a Japanese or European copy of whatever light gun game you're wanting to play. Tested with European copies of HotD 2 and Confidential Mission. Virtua Cop 2's release on the Sega Smash Pack NTSC-US release works with the offical guns no hassle.Breetai wrote:The ONLY advantage I think think of that the Japanese DC has is that you can use the official Sega lightgun with it. The gun wasn't released in N.America and the Japanese gun is one of the few accessories that will not work on an NTSC-US system.

Well you could be using the SD card Adapter and dreamshell to boot your games. Also I recommend underground-gamer for all your games since they have MASSIVE collections of everything.jinn wrote:While it's great you can download every game you want from DCzone, I like to use original games as much as possible. Most DC rips are not optimized and will wear out the DC laser faster.
Just like me, there are lots of collectors that will only use originals and never burned CD-Rs.
