I wouldn't have let them done it. Not for $1.50 or $150.

The gamestop clerk said it would be $1.50, which is what I expected, then he asked for my driver's license, photographed it, then photographed me. For a $1.50 game. Keep in mind how ridiculous this is considering they already have a security camera.

This is in northern illinois, but has this happened to anybody else? I'm pretty sure this violates privacy laws by photographing my license.
i would of refused, and i think youre dumb for not doing the same, sorry but that is bs.

+1

Something like a car, boat, house, or a gun or something is one thing. But for a game? Come on.

TBH, i was ok when he asked to see my license, but he did the photo thing without asking, so it kind of caught me off guard. In the future I'm refusing too, as i agree, it's total bs.

Without asking? That's got to be illegal in some way. I would have asked for a manager and asked to have it deleted, even if it meant I didn't get my $1.50. If people get your DL number, that could give them access to a lot of stuff that would mess things up bad. And I've already had my PayPal account hacked before.

Someone at gamestop was either trading or buying that stupid membership card. I noticed gamestop needed someone finger print for something, thought that was wierd.

Out of curiousity, what could it give them access to?

Lot's of places use DL numbers to verify identity or information. I just had to use it in an IHSS application, which is a service that pays you for caregiving. It wasn't so much for me as it was for my client. I'm a job coach for the disabled and it was her job, but they don't let you do anything through them without it and I was there to help her.

I have to agree. Not out of principal, nor not due to the fact that it's over such a small amount of credit/money, just due to the fact that it's so incredibly absurd. I would have laughed and walked out the door.

The guy who did the transaction was a coworker of mine from the business next door to the gamestop though, so I know them. That's also mostly the reason I was diplomatic, and that it didn't hit me until later how stupid the practice was.

I trust the employees. More likely in my mind is gamestop collecting the information(height, weight, etc.) to sell to companies. Hell, they probably already do that.

Lesson learned, though. From now on, I only trade in at Play-n-trade or independent stores. There's no point in doing business where store policy dictates treating me like a criminal.
