I think the big distinction is that weird details came out for the Clinton and Weiner scandals. I think the media would not have been as interested in the Clinton scandal if stories about the cigar, or the blow jobs in the oval office hadn't come out. Similarly, the Anthony Weiner scandal was big because a) his name was weiner, b) he was doing something folks would consider weird, and c) there were embarrassing pictures available.o.pwuaioc wrote: Citing 1 president when numerous others escape unscathed is, I'm fairly certain, the exception that proves the rule.
When the Tiger Woods scandal happened, it was a bit of a story. However, it really blew up with stories about Ambien sex and the sheer number of women involved.
Larry Craig woudn't have been as big a deal if it didn't involve airport restroom hookups and discussions of a "wide stance." If he had just "had an affair," it wouldn't be nearly such a big deal. See: Newt Gingrich, John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, every other Kennedy ever, etc.
Also, the Weiner thing in particular probably got a lot of coverage due to how everyone tried to throw Andrew Breitbart under a bus until the evidence became overwhelming.
