There's actually a sticker on the bottom either '1' or '2' in a circle. 1 menas it's the first model, which can read burned CD-Rs.

So this is essentially the method I was looking for :) Thanks!

Racketboy, may I suggest you add this info to your DC section on the "Hacks & Guides"?

Now might be a good time to refer that you don't have a link for the Dreamcast straight from the homepage (as you do for the others). You can still get there by clicking "Hacks & Guides" in the horizontal nav bar in the top of the page, of course.

(If you can get a photo of the bottom of your DC, with the sticker in there it would be great as well ;) I can't believe I'm requesting pics of a console's bottom :P)

Actually I added the Dreamcast link to the front page when I made the other additions.
But I'll work on getting a pic of the bottom tonight

I took some pictures;

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v477/conn/type1.png - Part of the sticker where it shows the version of Dreamcast

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v477/conn/sticker.png - Full sticker thing, mainly for kicks'

Hah, I ended up learning I had a 'launch' Dreamcast during this.

[E] I have higher res pictures, but Photobucket has a limit, and I didn't think they were nessisary.

what about model 0? I was looking for a DC on ebay recently and asked a few sellers to check the model #s on the systems. I described to them where it was on the sticker an stuff. Most were model 1, but one person said they were selling a model 0...

Say you were to tell us where you were buying these "brand new" Dreamcasts. What say you then?
