Have these guys translated all of it? Definitely something I'll highly consider once I start burning Saturn games again.
I've been very curious about the SF games for a long time. Can you start with any of them?

I'd recommend you start with SF1 and move forward from there, as they introduced more stuff with later games that you might miss in the earlier stuff.

Re: Shining Force 3--Does it get any better?
Not to bring up an old post, but I just started playing SF3 again, and want to know if I should play the translated Scenario 1 or the original US release.
One day I will play through scenario 2 and 3, but does the forced ending at the end of US version mess up the storyline between S1 and S2 enough that I need to play the translated version of the S1?

Choices you make in S1 affect the events in the other Scenarios.SpaceBooger wrote:Not to bring up an old post, but I just started playing SF3 again, and want to know if I should play the translated Scenario 1 or the original US release.

For example, in Battle 2: Saraband Pier, - If you save Garosh (Archer), then he joins Medion in Scenario 2. Otherwise, Jade (Tank Gunner) will join Medion in Scenario 2.
I don't believe S2 & S3 will read from the US save file in the same way.

Interesting. The translation project only translates the US and UK versions of scenario 1. I wonder if those files will work?EllertMichael wrote:Choices you make in S1 affect the events in the other Scenarios.SpaceBooger wrote:Not to bring up an old post, but I just started playing SF3 again, and want to know if I should play the translated Scenario 1 or the original US release.

This is misinformation. It will load from a US safe file just fine.EllertMichael wrote:I don't believe S2 & S3 will read from the US save file in the same way.
Spacebooger, the way the ending works in the Japanese version of S1 is that the protagonist of S2 shows up, and it looks like there's going to be an epic showdown. In the US version he shows up, but the dialog is now "Hmmm, you've beaten us, so we'll withdraw for now, but we'll be back". There's no real change to what the units do, so if you are willing to accept that the dialog is wrong then there isn't a huge reason to do the retranslated version of S1.

Are both scenario 2 and 3 completely 100% translated?
I haven't kept up with that translation project in quite a few years. Last I checked scenario 2 was done but 3 was still being worked on.

I remember playing SF3 via the Japanese disc with my US save, just so I could hear the differences between the voice actors (and only Synbios' goofy English voice irks me), so region-differences don't matter (other than a name-change)
I know Scenario 1 affects the other disks, but do the other disks affect Scenario 1?

Short answer is 3 still has a bit to go, though I'm not sure how much is just editing and how much is missing translations altogether.
No.I know Scenario 1 affects the other disks, but do the other disks affect Scenario 1?

So it's safer to play the stable US release and use my imagination to fill in the gaps between S1 and S2 instead of playing a possibly buggy translated S1?MrPopo wrote:Spacebooger, the way the ending works in the Japanese version of S1 is that the protagonist of S2 shows up, and it looks like there's going to be an epic showdown.
