Ad supported, free games service to launch on GamersGate
Re: Ad supported, free games service to launch on GamersGate
Do any of you subscribe to cable, satellite? Yes? Well your essentially PAYING for ads. Do you watch youtube? Better stop watching that because you don't support those products. Gametrailers? Yep, stop watching that too. Listen to the radio ever? Better stop listening to that as well.
Just. Wow. A disposable income must be really nice, seriously.
This service will open up some gamers to an entire new world and get SO many people interested. I for one couldn't care less if I have to sit through a 2 minute ad in order to play a game for a few hours. Don't want to watch it? Go get a drink of water and go to the bathroom. It's pretty simple.

I instantly stop any video that streams an ad that isn't being blocked by my hosts file.jeffro11 wrote:Do you watch youtube?

Soooo how do you watch TV shows? Pirate them? Or do you watch them at all? Because there is product placement in those... Movies? Cant watch those in the theaters because theres ads, right? I'm asking these questions very seriously. Your stance makes no sense.

The only TV show I watch regularly is South Park, and lucky for me South Park Studios hosts every new episode on their site free of charge pretty much right after it airs. I also watch some Adult Swim shows on their site and buy the DVDs. It's not that I don't have cable/satellite specifically to avoid ads, I just don't like watching TV so paying for the service would be a waste of money. I don't really watch movies at all, but yes, typically I'll torrent/pirate them and then later consider buying them on DVD if I really liked the movie.
Also I wasn't trying to derail the thread or be a jackass with my initial comment, I was just throwing in my 2 cents. This is a very cool service for people that don't mind ads.

I just have a huge problem with people using the hosts file to block ads. Racketboy provides this site with his own money. Granted he started the site because of the joy he had. Shouldn't he be allowed to make money off the ads he places to help the site pay for itself? He asks nothing of his members. The least you can do is give him ad views and the occasional click. Frankly you should support him, or stop using this service.

It is, actually.jeffro11 wrote:Just. Wow. A disposable income must be really nice, seriously.
Ads suck. The question is whether the games available and the service itself will be good enough to counter how much they suck. I am skeptical of this. We shall see.

Hello topic. Let's chat.
I'm gona use the pirate's argument to state my opinion that blends the two major points already shared in this thread.
Having ad supported games gives me a chance to try a game before I buy it. I don't have a disposable income, my wife just lost her job and my income pays for everything including my game.
I hate ads and will gladly pay for something to avoid them, but I have to limit my spending. So a service like this is just right for me. It lets me try a game and if I like it the ads will annoy me enough to buy the full version. It's a win win situation.
