Sounds like that's intentional; shortly afterwards there's a cut that shows an NES controller painted on the floor.

this sound is everywhere, i work in retail and our PDA units even have a Mario Coin sound.

As long as you go into it expecting a popcorn flick peppered with computer bullshit, it's a fun movie. It has an excellent electronic soundtrack too.

The truth is that classic game sounds are more recognizable than any modern one. Many video game soundtracks nowaday could fit perfectly into a movie, they do not carry the same impact.

It simply increases the density of information. You don't want to point to the screen for long, since the "gameplay" doesn't advance the plot and is probably irrelevant for the big picture of the scene, normally the fact that they are playing a game is more important than what they are playing. So it's desirable to tell the audience that they are playing a game as fast as possible and then move on.


Of course, then you have idiotic scenes where the sounds were added for no logical reason.
