The motherboard would have been built to support PS2 chips on the original PS3s. There's basically no chance of putting the PS2 chips on a newer PS3. You'd have to redo the motherboard.

PCSX2 has Linux builds, so I mean I would never say never. It just most likely won't happen anytime soon.

Possible? Yes. Worth the time and investment to Sony? Sadly no. They are not in the business of making us happy, they are in the business of making money. They already got your money when you bought PS2 discs the first time around. Best we could hope for is a Sony developed emulator designed to run PS2 downloaded games and then the hackers releasing custom firmware to make it run your PS2 discs. Its what happened with the PSP and PSone games.

yeah like I said earlier in the post, Sony actually has already said they won't spend time developing one most likely BUT if homebrewers made one they'd want to use it.

Returning BC could spurn on more PS3 hardware sales, so I wouldn't say it is entirely pointless for the company to be interested in it.

Actually, Sony is tricking us. Once they stop making PS2s and PS2 games, they'll eventually release an update for PS3 that allows PS2 discs to be played.

I bet the bastards will charge for it though. Like said previously, they are in the business of making money.

Reality check, PS2 compatibility will only happen as a PSN download on the PS3 slims.

Yeah, and they'll charge for it. I have a perfectly good PS2, no point in me paying for emulation.

Maybe i'm confused, but don't all the original ps3's except for the 20 and 60 gig launch versions support ps2 via emulation? The launch 20 and 60 have all the hardware of a ps2 so they support all ps2 games via hardware. And I was under the impression that the rest support most of the games via emulation. While the slim models have no ps2 support.
