I'm not sure if I'm reading both cases right, but I call BS to both. I've seen wireless gaming receivers still being sold in retail, namely Bestbuy, Target and Office Depot. They are still in stock on Buy.com and Amazon, so a product recall is highly unlikely.
Microsoft Keyboards with the large desktop dongles are typically paired in a manner that they are only listening for the mouse and keyboards associated with it in the factory. I've owed over 4 Microsoft Wireless Desktop set, and I have never seen documenation or have been able to connect anything to the dongle aside from the supplied keyboard and mouse combo.
Perhaps I'm mistaken, and the newer models allow you to do that. But I've been using my USB receiver ever since they were released, and never had any issues with it.
Any one use a 360 Wireless receiver?

Just because something is still in stock doesn't mean it's still being manufactured. Stores often don't send back product that's recalled by a manufacturer over non-life threatening reasons. For example if Staples still has it then they just didn't care and want to sell off all remaining stock, or the local manager wasn't doing their job right, the staff is lousy (it IS staples after all) etc... etc... Stock is no indicator of a discontinuation.
For example: GS asks us to send back games all the time (for errors, glitches, rare stuff they want to rip open and sell for a higher profit as used over MSRP, etc...) which we do, but lots of the time we have stuff slip through the cracks and it ends up never going back to the warehouse. After that it just sits on the floor until someone scans it and finds out, or a customer tries to buy it in which case we have to sell it to them.
Also, it's been discontinued for a good while:

The very one that I have, I got when I purchased the Microsoft LifeChat ZX-6000 Wireless Headset. There is no documentation that comes with this product (the headset) that says you can connect an Xbox 360 controller, but I saw the connect button on the dongle and thought I would try it. It worked perfectly. I can't speak to Hobie's issue of having to disconnect the 360 as my PC is in another room.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Well I was more trying to find out if I could just use a generic Microsoft keyboard dongle instead of the official 360 branded one.Hobie-wan wrote:Syncing the controllers isn't an issue, but when I had 1 controller, I had to unplug the 360 before turning on the controller to sync to the PC receiver. I suppose I could have pulled the pad battery for a few seconds to break the connection to the 360 as well. Not an issue now I have more controllers though.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote: Just to clarify are you saying your keyboard's wireless adapter works with 360 controllers? That would make getting a receiver and syncing controllers a lot easier and tons cheaper.

Just to add to MM's post. Here's the knockoff one I mentioned on Amazon too. Notice it says XBOX 360 on it, not Microsoft the the package says "compatible" in the upper left.avrame wrote:I'm not sure if I'm reading both cases right, but I call BS to both. Interesting, I'll have to dig out my wireless keyboard set and give it a try if thats the case. I just didn't like the idea/rumor that the dongle was responsible for breaking a mobo. The idea is just absurd to me, I've heard of usb devices attempting to suck more current than it is provided, but that just results in the device not powering, not drawing current to the point that a diode pops.
As for bestbuy and target, I should buy those guys if it is discontinued. I've seen two of those guys within the last two months locally. God knows how long those poor things have been sitting on that shelf: http://s.ecrater.com/stores/98440/4bbbe ... 98440n.jpg

Oh wow, and the receiver says Xbox 360, not MS like the Amazon listing for the discontinued one.avrame wrote:As for bestbuy and target, I should buy those guys if it is discontinued. Re: Any one use a 360 Wireless receiver?
I have the Microsoft Xbox 360 wireless reciever for windows model 1086. Says Microsoft across the top. I got it a long time ago along with 2 controllers. The controllers are crap but the usb dongle has been flawless in operation.
I now own a xbox360
(sorry I like sony better not starting flame war)
Does it work? Yes!
Shame Microsoft can't copy sega dreamcast controllers properly. I mean really how did they mess that up? Never lay one of these controllers upside down for a min.
So my only complaint isnt with the dongle but those crappy ass xbox 360 controllers. Even the new controller fox the xbox 360 is messed up (my xbox is only 2 months old) the black is nice but still the sticks blow! Good thing I can set the deadspace on my pc or my player will just move while the stick is centered.

I've had one for years. Since about 2006 I think. Never had a single issue with it. Works fine. I've connected 3 controllers and a wireless headset to it and they all worked fine. It works with my 'wireless' Official 360 Racing Wheel. It also detects wired headsets when they're plugged into the controller and can be used as skype/TS3 headsets.
Best of all, it doesn't need drivers on Windows 7, just plug and play.

I don't want to threadjack either, but I far prefer the 360 controller to the DualShock. Especially with the analog sticks. Just interesting how things like that can vary so much from person to person. Must be frustrating for developing the things.darth_blunted wrote:I have the Microsoft Xbox 360 wireless reciever for windows model 1086. Says Microsoft across the top. Ditto, I love the 360 controller, the perfect controller in my opinion. Fits right in my hands, good weight with the batteries, (I love AA batteries, just swap them out if it dies, and you are good), and the asymmetric analogsticks is more comfortable to me than a DS3.
As for the character moving on its own, just adjust your deadzone. Not too big a deal.
