Jet Grind Radio has oodles and oodles of slowdown as does Sonic Adventure 2 and lots of the later games that were really pushing stuff but were rushed a bit before the code was fully optimized.

The most difficult part though wasn't the overclocking, but keeping the unit stable at the higher temperature. The Dreamcast processors tend to get much hotter in OC mode. Hence all the extra modifications to keep it cool.

I also modded a Dreamcast with a second piggybacked Devcast bios about a year ago. Doesn't do anything differently when you play games on it. But I just wanted to see if I could pull it off. And it was nice to see the Devcast logo on bootup instead of the regular logo.

Yes, I'm a nerd. Sue me... :P

But hey, maybe we can make a list of games that actually have slowdown. I have a full Pal collection and a shitload of imports both J and US, so I can test them all out in due time. Not right now though. Don't have that Dreamcast in my home for the moment, same for most games I have. Those of you who read my comments since I became a member might remember I had to put all my stuff with a few friends so they can't take it away anymore - selling weed, trial, ginormous fine, stuff... Hopefully I can put everything back by the end of this year. Patience is a virtue I guess...

When you do make mention of a game, describe exactly where and how the slowdown occurs for convenience reasons. Maybe mention whether the game is PAL/EU, NTSC/US, or NTSC/J. Don't think that would make much of a difference in 480p VGA mode, but you never know. I remember the Japanese version of House of the Dead 2 working fine on my PC crt, while the US version did not. With the lightgun that is. So there are some differences regarding regional coding. Just not sure if they would make a difference regarding slowdown.

Oh yeah, homebrew and emulators should also benefit from the overclocking. Wasn't able to test this since the DC refused to read my backups. I should replace the lens one day...

Damn, I finished JSR and I don't remember any slowdown. My memory might fail me though...

DC-X has the option to force some non-VGA games into VGA mode...

For a quick test try this:

- Start a new game of Crazy Taxi

- head down the hill past the trolley cars and take a left at the very bottom of the hill. Follow the road along the beach until there is a park straight ahead. Whenever you drive into that park anywhere near the "trailer/ramp" , there is some significant slow down. This was the first thing I tested when the Gamecube version of CT came out...

I remember that. But I always thought it was because I was driving on grass, not because of slowdown.

Correct me if I'm wrong... :?

It will slow down in that location even if you are flying through the air off the ramp. Doesn't happen on the GCN version.

What happens to a Dreamcast at 240 Mhz and the sega Genesis modders? I've heard about it many times, but I'm clueless. Is this mainly for US or EU
