I liked the World of Warcraft and Excel 95 ones. But my favourites were the Mario Galaxy 2 and Portal ones. The Mario one was genuinely really fuckin' creepy. And it didn't help that I read the link about slender man. The Portal one was just really cool.

No video game myth list is complete without Polybius. 8) I didn't know about most of those, though. It was an interesting read.

Ever since cracked posted that article I've been checking their website daily to see if they'll post something else just as interesting. I think it's their best article in quite a while.

What you guys call creepy I call freaking cool. I may have to actually check out Super Mario Galaxy 2 now

EDIT: Those actually look like the shadow creatures in Ico. Crossover?

Flake wrote:That Mario Galaxy one is actually 'chill your blood' creepy. That's on the same level as the suicide midget in the Wizard of Oz.
I used to be horrified of the suicide midget. The one of my friends pointed out that it's just one of the large birds (is it an emu?) that are walking around the set. I was like "no it's n---" and then all the sudden I could see it. Now when I see that part, I can't see anything but the bird. Funny how yr brain sees what it's been influenced to see. Whether that's a midget killing himself or just a big bird spreading its wings.

I think I just acquired a new found respect for Braid's story

And wow, Luigi has a pretty screwed up life. Visions of suicide in a haunted mansion-that was very Eternal Darkness by the way-and a weird girlfriend who seems like some alien. If this article proves one thing though, what ISN'T screwed up in Mario's world?

Ok so the Glados thing is kinda creepy. But the rest are just developer jokes and Polybius. How are they creepy? Programmers always throw in a little something into their games to give them character or as secrets. Be it atomic princess's or a plant named chuck

The Slender Man story actually reminds me of a Supernatural episode(great show on the CW that I talk about a lot). They borrow a lot of their stories from real urban legends, folklore, myths, classic horror movies, legends, real life ghost stories, mass murderer myths, etc. From what I read in the article that cracked linked to, the Slender Man was something that somebody made up on an internet forum and then people started seeing it in real life and kids started dissapearing.

In the Supernatural episode that I mentioned, there was a ghost at some cabin the Winchesters were investigating. The weird thing about the story is that every time they returned to that place they seemed to be encountering an entirely different creature. Each time it was something they had never seen before and couldn't figure out how to kill it. Eventually they discovered some mystic symbol there. According to some research they did the symbol could create a being based on the thoughts of its creators. The cabin in question had some urban legends about it and there was a website where people kept adding new details to the legends about the cabin. Turned out the thoughts of the millions of people visiting the site were affecting the mystical symbol there and bringing those stories to life, manifesting a new and different creature there every time.

At the end of the episode, they ended up burning the whole cabin down with the symbol as well since the creature had take on so many different characteristics it was impossible to kill. Right before the episode ended, one of the Winchesters spoke a line that went something like this, "How many of the crazy things we fight every day do you think might only exist because people believe that they do?"
