LucasArts are known for there adventures being user friendly compared to Sierra, you cant get into dead ends, and you can NEVER be stuck, as in you can't use an item incorrectly. It is why they took the genre so far ahead (and the use of mouse rather than text based systems like Sierra were using.)

I beat most of the LA backlog of adventure games when I was younger than 10.

In Sierra game you can use items and be stuck because you need them later, you can die, there are countless dead ends, you can do things at the wrong time.

I think I restarted KQ5 more than 10 times with my old man before we got in the habit of having 20 save points and different points we considered 'safe'.
Yeah, I have heard that Sierra games are harsh. I have no interest in trying them as it sounds like they were intentionally designed to piss people off

Funny thing is I think it was someone on this forum who said you couldn't beat those Lucasarts games without using a guide at some point.

We are all good at different things, I sucked at ALL of the LA games, yet i've seen certified morons on this very board who claim they are easier than Brittany, so, it is what it is. I kill platformers better than most, but not all. Others kill adventures and rpg's whilst I struggle - not the point of the thread though.

That's true. Lucasarts games require what I have heard referred to as lateral thinking skills, which some people struggle with. Course I find that sometimes trial and error is a good substitute LOL. Personally, I have always been good at puzzle solving games, but I probably suck at other things

I can't really think of any "milestones" but a have achieved a few goals I set for myself, like beating certain games, beating my first 50+ hour RPG not including pokemon (FFVII), Owning over 100 games, and getting all the retro systems I want. My only goal left besides beating games and collecting more games is to get all the games I lost that I had in my childhood. So far all I need is Mega Man X, Captain America and the Avengers, and Ecco the Dolphin.

I feel a pointless sense of accomplishment every time I own all the games in a series that I like.

Oh come now, they're not that bad. If you get pissed off because you failed to follow the "save early, save often" mantra, it's not Sierra's fault. It's printed in the manual.

Once you get used to saving a lot (think of them like bookmarks), you're free to explore and figure things out. All those deaths that people complain about, they're part of the fun. What happens if I do X? Try it and find out, you'll get a funny death message at least. No problem, because you have plenty of saves to go back to.

I do resort to walkthroughs on adventure games, but only after I've been stumped for a couple session. I always give it a good faith effort to figure out, and try to limit the hints to only what truly stumped me.

Play a Space Quest or Leisure Suit Larry game. They're hilarious, and fairly easy.

I actually feel a bit sad once I have everything in a series I like, because then I know that unless it's a series that is still being made, I will never see anything new in that series again. Ever. :(

My biggest gaming goal that I ever do is playing through the entire MGS series once per year. It's sort of like watching a movie once in a while, except that it's so much longer that I have to make it a goal. I usually do this around April-June.

Some of my gaming milestones would be in my collection over 1000+ games owned so far and getting the retro systems like the Neo-Geo I couldn't get when I was younger.

My future milestones would be beating more retro games!! 8)

Biggest milestone for me was beating the fourth zone in sonic the hedghog 3. It took me roughly five years to find out I was supposed to be pressing up and down on those stupid red and white spinning drum things instead of jumping up and down.

In college, I tried to beat a bunch of games that had eluded me for one reason or the other. Ninja Gaiden I & II were both beaten in this time frame. Mega Man X was another. I can't remember too many more, except that I also tried to beat Super Ghouls n Ghosts, and after much blood, sweat, and tears made it to the last level and cannot beat it because of the frickin' timer! I can't bring myself to fire up that game again.
