Well, today I installed new joysticks on the Neo Geo. They are Happ Super 4-8 Way. Here is pic of the panel with one new and one old stick, one pic of the old worn stick after I took it out. And finally there is a pic of the new sticks on the cab.

Yea, those old sticks got pretty worn and they did not always work right.
The next thing that I want to do is replace the buttons and the control panel overlay. This does not need to be done, but I slowly want to make this thing look and play like it did back in the day. I may wait a long while on the buttons and overlay and give the cab a new paint job next summer. I am still toying around with ideas, and yes money is a factor.
Of course I am still on the look out for a good price on a 2 or 4 slot board too.

The overlay looks fine. There's something more nostalgic about a gently worn system. As a matter of fact, I think a cigarette burn on the panel would add some character :)

Yea, the overlay still looks good, it just has some cracks that you can't see unless you are really up close. I know I am kinda a perfectionist some times. It is probably my biggest flaw, sometimes I waste too much time trying to make something look good. Even though it still looks fine.

Time to show how much of noob at arcades I am.

I could not figure out why my test switch would not work, so I started to do some wire tracing to figure what may have happened. It has the original MVS wiring and he just plugged the MVS one slot into it. I have traced the game select button and the test switch button and they line up with the MVS wiring diagram. I have read some articles on the net that say it could mess up the sound having a jamma board plugged into an MVS cab, but it could have been the other way around. Any way I ordered a jamma to MVS cab wiring adapter so everything will be in the right place now. It also does not have the -5 volt line. Since it does not have the -5 volt would there still be jamma boards that would work? Mainly I want to buy some more shooters, and if I could make a Capcom CPS 2 with Mars Matrix work that would be insanely cool. I do not plan on ever drilling any holes for more buttons, so if I stick with CPS games that only use four or less buttons would I still need a kick harness? I really have not checked into adding a -5 volt line yet so I don't know what kind of skill that would involve or if I even need it yet.

Thanks for everyone's input so far.

You have a good deal with that cab, very nice 8)
No surprises about the condition of the original joysticks because of the number of NeoGeo fighting games there  ,i have a 1 slot MVS in a converted `Guardians OF The Hood Cab` but would rarther convert it back and get a dedicated Neo cab like yours.
I like fighters but personally i prefer Neo shooters like Aero Fighters 2 (Sonic Wings 2),Last Resort,Blazing Star,Pulstar and the Metal Slugs so i recomend those.
The -5V line is connected on my jamma test rig just in case as older games and a few others use it,i think it is mainly used for battery back ups and although 12V is used for the sound circuit some game boards require -5V as well for sound / speech like Konami Boards and other games like Rainbow Islands,Vanguard, etc.

This is most likely a dumb idea, but if you wanted to play the 6 button games in that cab you could always wire in 1 or 2 DIN plugs and build controllers that you could plug in externally. To me... this would be a waste of time. To add buttons you'd most likely need a wiring harness anyway.

I'm thinking of building a Supergun later this year and making the controllers 6 button.

oh.. I almost forgot! That cab you got is awesome! I like the aesthetic of the worn out cab, but the new buttons + joysticks are a sound investment.

OG Galaga is non-JAMMA, so you might be thinking one of the newer re-releases (anniver, XX-in-1). There are pin convertors if you wish to do that (but I distain that old shit)

MVS pinout it real close to JAMMA, so the sound, tilt, service, etc are a bit off...not gona kill it, but wise to correct. I would just make it JAMMA and run a single slot. Then all the JAMMA is set, with no issues. I know you want to "bring it back" but I think that is just the new-cab-owner in you. If you pick up another cab (which you WILL) then 4-slot it up and use the other for your JAMMA...you know you want 6-on-the-face for some CPS2 fighters!

Good shit on the purchase, the price for what you got is great deal IMO.

Yea I was looking at a newer release that uses a JAMMA connection.

I was thinking in the long term about playing 6 button games. I think it will probably be easier to find some other random cab to modify for that. I think for now I will wait on drilling holes since I don't have a lot of funds to buy more games yet anyway. An example of what I would like to eventually get is a WWF machine I found for $150. I in no way have the funds right now, but that is kind of something I would be on the look out for in the future to drill holes in and use as a multicade so to speak, cause you are probably right on the nail about me getting another cab.
