I think the likes of Zelda and Secret of Mana should be separate from the Final Fantasies and Dragon Quests.
It just irks me (though I'm probably the only one). But I think there are several people out there who would enjoy the one but not the other.
Anyone agree? Thoughts. opinions, words of despise-ment?
SNES RPG'S?
Re: SNES RPG'S?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Touchy subject eh? I figured as much. I guess I can shut up.Flake wrote:Please not this. There is a thread. This is covered. In epic detail. You'll find it easily.
But I wish we could at least specify the 2 groups in listing recommendations (it would avoid confusion and generally be more helpful IMO).
This is me not shutting up huh?
Couldn't find the thread you mentioned, but I don't care enough to search more than a couple minutes (I'm laaaazzzzzy).

Actually, if we ignore him mentioning Zelda (simply because of its controversial nature) he raises a good point. Secret of Mana plays VERY differently from FFVI. But aside from the battle system the two are essentially identical. Stats, equipment, magic, talking to people to further the storyline. The difference is that one game requires you to have good reflexes to do well, while the other does not. I can certainly see that people would be into one but not the other.Flake wrote:Please not this. There is a thread. This is covered. In epic detail. Thanks you two

Yeah, I don't want to argue the "technical" nature and definitions of RPGs here. I was merely trying to separate ARPG based on it's basic gameplay. If there's any pause in the action (from waiting turns), I just think it can appeal to a different crowd as the Mana games (which lets you move the whole time for the most part.
It's an inevitable question people will ask anyways after listing recs. So I still say why not specify each on the list, as you might do separating 2D and 3D fighters or hori and vert shmups.
