Re: Hackers trying to take down PSN
Man, Sony attracts more hate than Microsoft or Apple it seems. Wow

Jeez, this is so wrong. I didn't even do anything and I could have connection problems? Why can't these guys just leave Sony alone? If given enough time, Sony could probably worry less about piracy or control, and maybe put all their effort towards more important things.
Also, I don't get why everyones been getting so mad at Sony these days. Except for a few exceptions, I've been fine with Sony, and I guess I've been like that because Linux removal and Sony's suing don't really affect me.

Re: Hackers trying to take down PSN
Yeah, I really enjoyed them bringing down PSN a couple of days ago. Thanks for sticking up for my rights on my first day off after a solid week of work, work, work. It was so good to boot up MvC3 and find that I couldn't play with anybody.
Re: Hackers trying to take down PSN
It's just a gaming console though... I don't think there's any reason to be this upset about them removing features that are pretty much useless to the average user. I can almost guarantee the greater portion of PlayStation 3 users use their console for gaming, and have never, and will never, use the other OS feature. You may have, and I'm sure many others would too, but the average user could care less about changing the OS of their console.Niode wrote:Personally I think it's absolutely atrocious what Sony are doing. They're not fighting against piracy, they're fighting over control. The right for Sony to dictate to you how you use your hardware. They want to make it so that little black box of tricks you buy isn't yours. They want to control every single thing you do with it. That is something I cannot accept, no matter what. It is the reason why I have boycotted Sony since Linux was removed from 'my' console. I will not be held hostage to Sony's whims. Only a fucking moron would accept that.
I don't consider myself a "fucking moron" for going along with Sony's whims, I'm just largely indifferent to things like that, because all I want to do is play a video game.

I've looked into the history of Anonymous, and honestly, I can't see them doing anything with the personal information unless they decide to go protest outside their houses while wearing Guy Fawkes masks.

Most of us aren't downright stupid enough to go do that.Ack wrote:So why not go to 4Chan and see if it's really Anonymous? Two seconds in /b/ ought to be enough.
Oh, they still go after the Scientologists, but they budget their time between different things, such as taking down Egyptian government websites, attacking anti-union Koch Industries in Wisconsin during the current budget crisis here, and finding criminals.Ack wrote:And even if it is them, since when did they decide Sony PSN was a bigger threat than Scientology?

At the absolute worst, extortion. Terrorism is a word used solely to emotionally manipulate. But I don't think this even amounts to that. The names of Sony executives are a matter of public record. All this looks like to me is a "name and shame" campaign. I know if I met a Sony exec or his spouse on the street I'd like to know, so I can offer him a well deserved "go fuck yourself".Flake wrote: They are disclosing information about the family members of private citizens (such as kids names, addresses, schools, etc) to threaten people into doing what they want them to do, i.e. drop lawsuits against George Hotz and co.
What do you call that?
As for the "hacking", if it's like other projects Anonymous has undertaken, it's just a DDOS. If anyone is breaking passwords to gain access to systems they have no rights to, then by all means send them to jail. If they're just hitting F5 again and again, that's the digital equivalent of a sit-in.
Yes, because if the average user doesn't want to do it, it's not worth doing. Are you stupid or just average?brunoafh wrote:I don't think there's any reason to be this upset about them removing features that are pretty much useless to the average user.

Wheelchairs are useless to the average person. Does that mean we should take them away from everyone?brunoafh wrote: It's just a gaming console though... I don't think there's any reason to be this upset about them removing features that are pretty much useless to the average user.

This kind of argument is irrelevant. You're comparing wheelchairs to game consoles.YoshiEgg25 wrote:Wheelchairs are useless to the average person. I don't think anybody was extremely disabled or inconvenienced in their lives by the lack of Linux on PS3.
That said, I really don't think Sony should have ever taken the feature away, but, seriously, why the fuck is it such a big deal? People need to take a chill pill.
Especially Niode.

No, but if a bank screws you over a small amount of money (a friend had problems getting 1000€ from his dead father's bank account, cause the bank wouldn't give them the money unless they went to court), let's see if you think the rest of the world shouldn't care about what is an inconvenience to few.RyaNtheSlayA wrote: This kind of argument is irrelevant. On the other hand, these actions are totally not justified, and neither is all the bitching imo. You have a problem with the company about removing linux support? Good. Get more people who have the same complaint and take them to court.
FFS amazon gave a 100€ refund, to someone who bought a PS3 from them, cause it was an advertised feature, and under EU law they shouldn't have removed it. But no one bothered asking for that money. No one bothered getting a group together and taking them to court. Either just let it go, or do something about it. Bitching never helped anyone.
