I second that quote. Also light gun games are fun. I like those alot. Especially with terrible voice acting. I'm looking at you House of the Dead 2!!GSZX1337 wrote:Quoted for TruthinessAck wrote:I'm a mouse and keyboard fan, and in general I avoid console FPS because playing on a controller just doesn't feel natural to me. I would have to agree with Rivius on everything. Keyboard and mouse is obviously the much more accurate method but a controller and a couch is still a pretty compelling proposition.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

My custom mouse + keyboard setup. No one can play on my computer because of it.

Re: Favourite control scheme for FPS games
It's exactly the same for me. I usually prefer the platform that I started playing a game series on.Ryvius wrote:Default (dual joystick) I guess? The odd thing is I have to play inverted on consoles, but non-inverted on PC. I also find myself maxing out the sensitivity on a lot of console FPS's nowadays and put it pretty high up on the PC too.
As for a potential console vs PC argument, I gotta say it boils down to the actual game for me. Like even if I had a lot of fun with Halo CE, I still think Halo feels right with a controller. Something like Half-Life 2 on the other hand, feels a lot better with a mouse and keyboard for me.

My favourite control scheme is W, A, S, D for my left hand, and a mouse in the right hand. Unlike most people, I actually prefer sitting up in my computer chair when gaming, rather than lounging on a couch.

PC - Half Life controls if possible - wasd, e for interact, r for reload, etc.
Consoles - legacy sticks and southpaw buttons. Meaning left stick is move and turn, right stick is look and strafe and fire is left trigger.

W, A, S, D in my left hand and a computer mouse in my right. It's the best.
If I'm playing a console or handheld, I want a joystick, D-pad, A B X Y, or Sony circle-square-triangle-X to emulate W, A, S, D and an analog stick or touch screen to emulate the mouse.
The only exception is Goldeneye. I got brainwashed to the default controls of that game as a kid, so I can kick tail with the N64's weird control pad. But I don't generally like it when a game screws around with that formula, like make the controls 'auto lock-on' enemies or make the D-pad's left and right into "turn left/turn right" rather than strafe.

Dual Analog
Left thumbstick - Forward/back/strafe/click to crouch
Right thumbstick - Turn/aim/click to melee
L1 - Zoom
L2 - Jump
R1 - Fire primary
R2 - Throw grenade
Left d-pad - Previous weapon
Right d-pad - Next Weapon
Up d-pad - Select special weapon
Down d-pad - Use healthpack (when available)
X or A - Reload
I generally don't use the face buttons that much
