It's been in development for a while, but it hasn't been green lit. If the higher-ups at Capcom think it's still too risky all the work done up to now will go to waste.

Darkstalkers 4 is never going to happen. As much as I desire it, I am no fool. Even if one million signatures are obtained (which is a pretty ludicrous amount), Capcom wouldn't budge.

There also will be no sequel to Rival Schools, Power Stone, Cyberbots, or any other fighter in Capcom's arsenal that is not Street Fighter or Versus Capcom either, nor will there ever be another original fighter to come out of Capcom.

The only thing that has even the vaguest possibility of happening is Capcom handing the license off to another company to make it, like they did with Sengoku Basara X. Wouldn't be totally against this, but even this course of action is extremely unlikely.

The only way Darkstalkers 4 or any of the aforementioned games will ever be made is if a huge amount of money is gathered (either by the community or by some eccentric millionaire - hell, it'll likely take a lot of both) and given to Capcom to make it, so that even if it does less that expected, at least they didn't lose money on it.

They should take Gabe Newell's idea of gamer-funded development and run with it. It's the only chance Darkstalkers has.

Darkstalkers is actually a good concept. It's somewhat well known, it would generate free publicity and the theme is very attractive.

The problem is, the fighting genre is very niche and they don't think it's worth it.

Sorry Noise, but this is pretty old news. Ono likes to give his followers false hopes. He gets too excited about potential or upcoming ideas, like when he announced 3rd Strike Online for psn far too early.

I would be excited...but knowing Capcom, it would be 2.5D like SFIV and MVC3, and i'm not too crazy about that look to those games. They play okay though so whatever.

And as far as Capcom making an actual Darkstalkers 4, I think it's possible. There are plenty of Darkstalkers characters in the Vs. Capcom series, and I would imagine that more gamers know of the series than Capcom may give credit for.

And honestly I can't imagine it being that really hard to make. They could use the engine for SF4 or MVC3 and sort of replace the characters in the game solely with Darkstalkers characters. Perhaps they are too busy with their Street Fighter and Tekken crossover game.

I actually would enjoy seeing the Darkstalkers universe explored in another genre, like what happened with Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. I appreciate 2-D fighters as much as the next guy, but there is only so much you can do with them.
