Re: Whats the weirdest medical condition that you've been in?
I suppose the 2 or 3 times where I've managed to pinch a nerve sleeping and wake up to have an arm completely limp. Thankfully it wasn't a circulation issue as my arm wasn't pink or purple. But it's rather unnerving to wake up and your arm is tingling lightly, but hanging completely limp like it is made of jelly and refuses to do anything for about 20-30 seconds.

In my late teens, I had a hydrocele on the right side of my scrotum. I eventually had surgery for it around the age of 20.
Basically, my body wasn't draining the fluid correctly and so it built up, and caused my scrotum to enlarge. I'd say it got to around 3 times the normal size. Totally painless and the doctor said I could ignore it and it would be fine but I decided to get surgery for it because it was embarrassing.
They put me to sleep for the surgery, cut open my scrotum, drained the fluid, and then stitched me back up.
When I first awoke, I felt a tightness on my left arm and looked to see why. There was a needle stuck in my arm, giving me IV fluids I believe. However, they missed my fucking vein and it was pumping fluids randomly into my arm, causing that area of my arm to swell up like there was a baseball inside! I had no idea my arm skin could stretch that much. It freaked me the fuck out and I yelled for a nurse who quickly took the needle out and apologized. Thankfully my arm went back to normal after half a day or so.
I remember throwing up a lot in the car ride home, because I felt just horrible. When I got home, I had to deal with a very painful and bloody scrotum for a few days, which wasn't fun at all. However once the whole ordeal was behind me, I was fully healed and looking normal. (^_^);

Had lazy eye when I was little. Left eye had trouble moving and was much weaker than my right. Had to wear an eyepatch over my right eye for about a year I think (I was little so I don't remember much). I still really don't see things out of my left eye except in peripheral vision, and my left eye is only about half as effective as my right (which is 20/20). I think it's a genetic thing though- my Mom had it too, but my siblings have been lucky. She's the opposite of me though, she really only "sees" out of her left eye except peripheral vision in the right.

I get that about 1-2 times a month, though I almost always hallucinate when it occurs. Sometimes it's so alarming that I'll wake up early in the morning and won't go back to sleep, my sense of fear or danger not yet dissipated as well as being afraid it may happen again.wootcube wrote:Sometimes I get sleep paralysis -

(the wiki entry gives a very broad description of all the types, I've only had the paralysis upon waking up - none of the super crazy stuff they mention)
Not quite sure if it counts, but until I figured out what it was it scared the crap out of me. Definitely the strangest thing I've ever experienced

Had this happen to me twice within a few months when I was a teenager. I had hallucinations both times and it was awful. Living nightmares.Dylan wrote:I get that about 1-2 times a month, though I almost always hallucinate when it occurs. It's pretty common. I've had it a few times. Scary as fuck the first time, but it gets slightly easier to deal with the more times it happens.Dylan wrote:I get that about 1-2 times a month, though I almost always hallucinate when it occurs. I wouldn't say I had hallucinations, but i definitely had the panic attack part - I remember being scared to death of my celling fan because thats what I ended up being stuck looking at every time it happened.fvgazi wrote:Had this happen to me twice within a few months when I was a teenager. Re: Whats the weirdest medical condition that you've been in?
Got very sick when I was in pre-school. Very high fever, stiff and extremely painful neck, hallucinations, just laid in my parents bed howling in pain. They took me to the hospital and I had to get a spinal tap because they thought I had meningitis - spinal tap=worse pain ever! It felt like a million needles all at once up and down my spine. I hear they don't do these that much anymore and I remember my parents had to sign a special waiver to get it done because it could paralyze me or something. Anyhoo, I was in the hospital for a week and had a bunch of tests done. All they came up with was a diagnosis of Virus of Unknown Origin. Apparently there were a handful of cases and only a couple kids survived.
I got a red bike afterwards.

Haha, man, that's crazy: "Virus of Unknown Origin"...
Speaking of childhood, anyone even have a case of lockjaw? I got that way back in middle school from improper posture when playing my saxophone. My jaw was locked in the open position for roughly 12 hours, hella uncomfortable.
Then again, I knew a bud of mine that had lockjaw with his jaw in the closed position. I could only imagine that is about a million times worse. At least I could talk :S

If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?
