Exactly. It's like saying everyone will stop going to sports games because they watch them on TV.AppleQueso wrote:It's like they can't comprehend that going to the theater in itself is enough of a unique experience to draw a crowd.

...Or people will stop buying music because radio is free. Or people will stop going to the movies because TV is free. Or people will stop buying media because you can steal it online. See also bottled water.

Re: PC Gaming Is Dying
Now THAT may be true! I have never paid for a PC game before (With the exception of Oblivion GOTY for 3 bucks at Value Village & gifts don't count). I have not purchased a DVD nor rented a movie in years. I have only purchased maybe 3 CDs in my life. The only media I ever pay for is console games. I bet there's a lot of people like me but they have every console modded! Retail IS slowly going to die at some point in time. Maybe not even for a hundred years but it will happen. It sucks yeah but I'm not going to "support" the game companies if I am offered a cheaper and easier way of obtaining games. Pretty soon everyone will be downloading instead of buying. The next generation of kids, well even the current generation of kids will probably never HAVE to pay for anything growing up.Hobie-wan wrote:Or people will stop buying media because you can steal it online

That you can do it doesn't make it right. Specially when your "logic" can be applied to justify anything, be it stealing, murder, cheating or rape.darthmunky wrote: It sucks yeah but I'm not going to "support" the game companies if I am offered a cheaper and easier way of obtaining games.
You brag too much about your piracy, me thinks.

See I was being facetious. Lots of people, including myself still buy plenty of media and whatnot and those things I mentioned haven't died despite doomsayers in the past. You're a thief with entitlement issues.darthmunky wrote: Now THAT may be true! I know, my first reaction was "again?," and in my case, I only saw this topic once some years back.J T wrote:Not this topic again...![]()
It's only entertainment, one doesn't need to "obtain" it to live. That said, if you are going to "obtain," you should think about supporting your favorite developers so they may continue to develop your favorite series'.darthmunky wrote: It sucks yeah but I'm not going to "support" the game companies if I am offered a cheaper and easier way of obtaining games.
I've pirated in the past, but all it really led to was this asshole-ish obsession with hording shit that you don't realize that you don't really even want 90%+ of in the first place.
Probably the hardest part about being a gamer is discovering what is you actually truly like within gaming. It can get confusing at times because, you could start off a genre(I'll use RPG's as an example here) by playing some of it's crowning jewels, really enjoying them, thinking the genre is more like them than it is, instead of realizing the reality of it, like said genre being like 95% crap(like generic Dragon Quest/Final Fantasy clones, especially in the earlier generations), and you think you're in love with an entire genre you could really barely stand.
I think a good percentage of piracy comes down to that. Not realizing what one actually likes, and craving it all because of it.
I would say, ideally, one should have roughly 30 games, at most, per console. Ideally. Obviously no one who's overzealously enthusiastic about the hobby will do that. Then it becomes pricey, and we're back at the cycle of piracy all over again.
Re: PC Gaming Is Dying
You guys don't understand, man. Piracy is not stealing. When you steal, you take something away from someone. When you pirate, they still have their copy. Nothing was stolen from them. It's like when I read a book to a child. The information from the book is copied into their brain, but the child and I did not steal the book, we only transferred the information. So when I hack into my bank's computer system and I copy some of their money into my my checking account, I'm not actually stealing, nooo, I'm just "transferring information". They still have the same information in their account too, I just copied a few numbers over to my account. That's all. It's not stealing in the slightest. /sarcasm.
