Original Fat 60 gig PS3

Still got my 60 GB PS2 backwards compatible model which I play all the time. Never had any problems with it as I keep it well ventilated and generally take care of the thing.

from what I have been told 500gb, but that seems like more than enough. Still have my original 60 gig thank god. Nice to have 4 usb ports when we bust out rock band

Still got my launch day 60gb PS3 and its working fine. Although I've upgraded to a 320gb drive since then.

I picked up a 2.5" Western Digital 5400rpm drive on Newegg for $50. A 500 GB hard drive should be plenty for your gaming needs: PSN games, installs, saves, etc. The PS3 uses the FAT32 file system so the limit is 2 TB. I hope this helps.

They're pretty sought after, and seem to go for around $250-300 used. You can get a new ps3 for about as much as it costs to get a used 60gb.

I went ahead and got the used 60 though, and I don't regret it at all.

PS2 Compatiblility
My son saved up and initially got a 60gb PS3 for the the PS2 capability. We went thru two YLODs, luckily the PS3 was still in warranty thru Sony's 90 day Service. Sony does an even swap of the same model number at the Service Center. The hard drive game saves are lost, but five recoveries of DRM purchases are allowed. On the third replacement 60gb PS3, lesson learned:
1.Niode 's advice of leaving the PS3 desktop mode flat for better air circulation.
2. NOT using a cheap extension cord, the low amp rating murder on the PS3 hungry power needs.

Maybe the Slim PS3 is more reliable?
Meh, turns out PS2 mode is hardly used and no reason to waste the total lifetime PS3 milage. A Fat PS2 hard drive arrangement is more convenient for PS2 games anyways. Maybe save the BlueRay movies to play on a now inexpensive separate BlueRay Player and the PS2 games on a PS2 console.

Damn. Yeah, I've got a slim PS3 and a working slim PS2... so I guess it'd be a little pointless for now. Still something I'd love to get someday though.

But I wonder, you guys think they'll ever release some kind of official software/hardware or something that'll allow PS2 compatibility on all models? I thought I heard rumors months back about the possibility of some third party attachments that could pull it off, not sure though.
