artphotodude - Does the Dreamcast to HDMI work on your Sony HD CRT?artphotodude wrote:They are not really good for light-gun games, but for everything else, it simply doesn't get any better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You others can keep your LED sets, I would rather play a CRT ANYDAY!sevin0seven wrote:and I happen to have a Sony Wega HD Tube (with HDMI)artphotodude wrote:Incidentally, this is the same technique used internally by the last generation of Sony Wega HD Tube sets (when you select DRC Interlaced mode) - so you might actually find one of these GREAT old TVs on craigslist for less money than buying the transcoder, and then you could use it for your modern consoles in 1080i also!
artphotodude and sevin0seven - Which model number do you own?
Mine is a Sony Wega HD CRT, model number KV-32HS500

Jamisonia posted pics and a review on page nine of my CRT vs LCD signature link.
Video Quality
Keep in mind converting a Composite, SVideo or Component feed to HDMI is not going to improve the picture quality of the source. Simply get a convertor if you need for instance SVideo if your HD doesn't have a SVideo input. There are expensive upscalers that will improve the signal quality somewhat, a viewers discretion at a price. Just don't expect a HD pic as in a BlueRay movie or current generation console.
Compatibility
I bought Jamisonia's VGA to HDMI adaptor because my Sony HD CRT doesn't have a VGA input. Unfortunately it does not work on my WEGA HD CRT. On the son's LCD HD it does work fine with a laptop but as expected his LCD doesn't support 640x480 resolution. So this is a great adaptor in the HD will support it.
