Re: My Local Play N Trade shut down suddenly
The only one I could think of is the one in Danbury, I don't go often mainly because its a 30 minute drive (for CT standards, thats far away). I always had a good time going there since they are very friendly, hell thats how I met fellow Racketeer Xonticus. I never thought in a million years I would ever meet someone from this site, it was an awesome experience, I even bought a bare bone TurboGrafx-16 (well it came with a controller, but no games) and they discounted it for me since they know where I come from, it was a tough move but I bought it anyway since I knew it will be the only time I would ever see a TurboGrafx-16 out in the wild.
I need to get back there if its still open, I totally love it there.

I have NEVER heard of a store were the employees made fun of the customers before they were even out of earshot. That is ridiculous behavior.Jamisonia wrote:My local Play N Trade in Alexandria, VA was apparently shut down yesterday. I had only gone to this place a few times, because frankly the people there were unfriendly, appeared to make fun of you behind your back (you'd walk towards the door and hear boisterous laughter soon after you made a purchase), and the employees were just in general sketchy.

Re: My Local Play N Trade shut down suddenly
I have nothing but good experiences from the local PNT by me in Crystal Lake. The selection usually kinda sucks, but I chalk that up for being in a not as populated area so not many people are trading in anything really remarkable. I have noticed lately they are jacking up the prices for anything really good. When they first opened I got Street Fighter II Turbo for SNES for 8 bucks, then now they sell it for 20. : /

Re: My Local Play N Trade shut down suddenly
There are 2 of them in Ocala, both owned by the same people (I don't know why they need two, but whatever). Whenever I went the staff was always very friendly (Except that last buy 2 get 1 free sale, but I chalk his crankyness up to stress. The place was packed and he looked exhausted). The selection has varied every time I've gone in and the prices for nintendo system games varied for the most part from $1.99-$9.99, unless it had Mario in the name, in which case they put it behind glass and plopped a $20 sticker on it.
Retro system prices varied from a $20 Sega genesis to a $40 NES2. I actually thought their prices weren't all that bad. Yes the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox games are a bit more expensive than at Gamestop, but its hard to find any of the earlier games now since Gamestop quit selling them (I think I cried a little when they got rid of the Game Boy games).
I don't really have any experience with any other Play N' Trades to make a comparison, but since they're a franchise I think your experience can be chalked up to one owner and their employees and not the store in general.

Re: My Local Play N Trade shut down suddenly
At my closed location anything with Mario in the title was $34.99. Bare bone Dreamcasts cost $60. Shaq-Fu was $9.99. The cheapest thing was their accessories, often random thing bagged priced a $1.99. But I found they didn't look at their stuff before they put it on the shelf, as I bought an NES controller that I later discovered has significance portions of rubber insulation missing. It didn't take me long to stop going. I suppose I wasn't the only one.

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
I was waiting so badly for one to open up in my area. Frankly I was starting to get irritated as to why they haven't. I'm in Northern California, not Montana. But if they're shutting down stores, I guess it makes sense.
Now I will never get a Play N Trade.

Re: My Local Play N Trade shut down suddenly
There is a Play-N-Trade by me that is in a rather remote area and they seem to be doing ok. There prices are generally decent, with my biggest problem being the quality of their used disc based games like Dreamcast and PS1. The cases are always cracked, dirty and broken, yet the price they charge is if it was a mint copy.
