There was a question about how come this doesn't happen with Nintendo - well it does, just to a lesser degree because they don't have a hard drive, massive game installs, or constant patching. There have been a (very) small number of legitimate failures caused by Wii system updates though.
I agree with Mod_Man_Extreme. Often this is because of user error or a one-off glitch affects an incredibly small number of people but then gets over-reported. Unless the effects are wide-spread instead of just widely reported, I don't get concerned.
I also agree with Weekend_Warrior that it's tragic how the difference between home consoles and PCs is slowly disappearing - especially with some versions of PS3 and 360 systems incapable of playing the same games, and changing feature sets that mean consoles with the same name aren't actually the same hardware. Installation times, waiting for updates before playing, and seeing constant post-release patches is not something I want in a "next gen" system...

..and no, Microsoft has done a lot better than Sony this gen. Kinect vs Move for starters...

I miss the days when game systems didn't have firmware updates.

I'm stopping this here before it becomes a flame war/console "fanboy" jerk off. We're better than that.Weekend_Warrior wrote:What are you - a Sony fanboy? Just to clarify and stop the spread of misinformation. This won't affect people who have already upgraded their drives. It's an issue with upgrading your hard drive post-update. The solution is to simply put your old hard drive back in and wait for them to patch the bug. This should have been caught at quality control. Especially if it's a bug that has reared it's head in the past. It really should have been squashed. Never mind. It won't affect the smart users who don't bother with these meaningless 'updates'.
