Make sure that the correct ac adapter comes with your system because it sucks if you get a system without the proprietary adapter (that is, of course, if the system uses a proprietary adapter).

Also, due to its age, I always recommend that an atari should be unplugged when not in use.

I'm pretty sure all 2600s use the same adaptor, and yeah it's a stupid thing with a head phone plug instead of the standard barrel plug.
