I am definitely getting that hard drive adapter as soon as it is available, and putting a 750GB Hard Drive in my 'Cube to keep my entire collection on it!

For the hard-drive replacing disc drive mod, I'd likely buy a second cube to do that. But it sounds pretty awesome.

Actually they made a HDD adapter that plugged in to the memory card slot, instead of using the broadband adapter slot. No physical modding of your Gamecube needed. Unfortunately they've all sold out at this point.

I believe I bought one of the last ones. Hasn't arrived yet so I can't say how well it works... although I can't imagine the compatibility rate being better than loading games from an SD card. (My success rate so far is zero.)

emu_kidid is a genius! I'm not really interested in running DVD-Rs with a modded full size top. But I am looking forward to the new features especially a Hard Drive Mod, similiar to HDAdvance/HDLoader.

The older programs emu_kidid put out already do this on a UNMODDED Gamecube.

Do you have any similar guides for gamecube hard-mods, specifically replacing the disc drive with a HDD and booting games off of that?

I have five cubes now, so as soon as you get it operational tell me, Ill do this to atleast one of them, if not two.

Edit:
Just had an idea, you could probably put a harddrive into a Gameboy Player. Then rig it up into the BBA port and you would have a Harddrive modded Gamecube that should still have Gameboy Player functioning and looks stock.
