Maybe a bit melodramatic, but it's looking like this isn't going to bod well for some of us SNK fans.
this sucks. i was looking forward to the sequal... :?

That sucks. That means all hope is gone of ever getting a Crystalis remake. And I'm totally in love with Metal Slug. But I guess nearly 10 games is a pretty good run. As for the fighting games, personally I won't miss them because I'm not a big fighting game fan. But it sucks for the fighting game fans more than anyone else.

SNK games have been not just a staple franchise for the fighting-game market, but the whole gaming industry in general.

At the very worst - expect a few years of limbo until SNK properties get sold off to interested companies, (Capcom - JUST DO IT, already!!)
I'd love to see Konami buy Metal Slug. :D
It's weird to think that Konami has no [popular] fighting franchise. I always pictured Konami as the "manly" company, so you would think that they would have a fighting franchise.

Instead of trying to wrestle people away from the Street Fighter 2 machines with their own versus fighter it seems Konami's strategy was quality licensed beat'em up games like Ninja Turtles, X-Men, Simpsons, etc.

They made a pretty forgettable SF2 clone called Martial Champion back in the day but it obviously didn't go anywhere.

They tried again with Kensei: Sacred Fist for the PlayStation after Tekken got popular which similarly went nowhere.

It's probably better that they stuck to what they're good at.

If SNK's gone for good this time it's a real shame. Fighting games are really starting to get their second wind these days and make a come back. It's a terrible time for SNK to disappear again.

I'd imagine that if SNKP doesn't ever port KOFXIII, then someone will pick it up for digital or budget disc release (in the twilight of this console generation). KOF might have hit its lowest point with XII (lower than 2001 IMO), but its still a big enough name to be worth something to a publisher with realistic sales expectations. Hell, super-niche 2D fighting games like Melty Blood and Arcana Heart still get released, so I'm not too concerned about KOFXIII.

Not all bad, I like Pachinko and I have won a fair amount playing. It would be cool to see some SNK IP on Pachinko machines. That would be rad.

It's already happened. Between the time SNK went under and was reborn as Playmore, a company called Aruze manufactured KOF and Metal Slug Pachinko machines.

I came to terms with this terrible fact years ago when SNK originally went down.

But no KoF13? Wow. Thanks I... I think I'm depressed. It doesn't help I have a chemical thing going on but KoF13 was one of the few games I was looking forward to with legitimate enthusiasm. This is literally the worst news I could possibly hear. I'd rather hear Nintendo is stopping software support for everything but the 3DS or Playtation Network's basic service is going to be subscription based.

*sigh* Wonderful. Boy I sure do love video games.

Adding "popular" made it harder, but since Konami owns Hudson, they at least have Bloody Roar. It's not Justin Bieber-popular, but it's not unknown either.
