That was a great story and the pictures were an added treat. Even for a guy it can be nervous going someplace like that. In my case it was a basement of another teachers dad and I only knew the teacher. Everyone turned out great and I ended up becoming a regular there until I had to move again.

I could definitely see the benefit of having such a group to hang out with. The game is pretty cool, and is unpredictable. I am sure once you make close friendships with the people you are playing with it makes the game even that more fun. I will keep my deck.

I used to love playing Magic with a group of friends I had in high school. Good times. Funny, I had a lot of geeky friends back then and we had a few nice females who hung out with us sometimes too. It was never awkward. Maybe it all depends on where one lives

Very funny story by the way, and the pictures made it better. Your posts are bringing some great entertainment to these forums

Thanks Gamerforlife! Like I said, a lot of the guys were really cool. There was some tension basically due to the fact that they were most likely not expecting me.

It was a good time!

Memories of my last magic tournament come flooding back. Orlando, several hundred nerds, eating/dressing poorly and still handily being top 5 in terms of hygiene. Part of me is glad I stopped playing.

The other part got to play a few games with his old friends from middle/high school who he used to play with this past Christmas vacation. That was quite wonderful.

One of the problems I have with Magic the Gathering is the money it takes to build a really good deck. I know some people that stopped playing just because they were tired of spending all the money.

I haven't played in a long time, but I remember you could make some good decks without spending too much. It was always more about how you put a deck together and how you used the cards than the actual cost of said cards. I never did tournament play though, but I had seen some very good decks that consisted of common cards when playing among friends.

On the other hand, once the COLLECTING bug hits you...yeah, then it gets expensive

i stopped playing it cuz i was tired of actually starting it... yeah, not my bag. but the one thing i hate about that game is i'd be partying with a handful of friends and then all of a a damn sudden half if not almost everyone would go sit in the kitchen for 2 hours playing it and being completely useless for conversation or reception of humor... it was painful

You never saw my group when we played, plenty of conversation and humor. We used to have a lot of fun. For us, it was like a geeky version of poker night. We only played if we planned on dedicating a night to it. If we hung out for any other reason, the Magic cards would never come out
