When I was about 11 this was my 2nd most hated saturn game.

I've always been curious if it really was bad or if just wasn't very good at it.

I recommend fighters on this system though, and shmups, most of them are great.

Alright, how about this... I'll just list off a bunch of great Saturn games other than the ones you got (you got off to a GREAT start, by the way!) and you'll do the necessary research on them to see if they're right for you (price range, language barriers, et cetera). I'll leave a few notes here and there to help you out.

Radiant Silvergun
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Shining Force III Scenario 1 (Has an official English translation)
Shining Force III Scenario 2 and 3 (Have an online patch for a modded Saturn)
Guardian Heroes (Although there is an emphasis on story, the gameplay is highly accessible in the much-cheaper Japanese version)
Burning Rangers (^)
Dragon Force
Fighters Megamix
Bulk Slash
Saturn Bomberman (Another one to get the Japanese version of if you don't want to spend too much money)
Street Fighter Alpha/Zero (There are lots of these... Street Fighter Alpha 2 is cheap and balanced, but Street Fighter Zero 3 is the most impressive... also expensive.)
X-Men vs. Street Fighter/Marvel Super Heroes (I think X-Men is more balanced, but again, Marvel is more impressive)
Sega Rally Championship (Go for the Japanese version, it's slightly enhanced)
Panzer Dragoon Zwei (I'd go for the English version... it's not that much more expensive, and if you get into the Panzer games you'll want to know the story)
Princess Crown (So gorgeous it'll be worth fudging your way through even if you're not fluent in Japanese)
Dungeons & Dragons Collection
Soukyugurentai Otokuyo (There are two versions of this game -- this one is superior and slightly cheaper)

Virtual On: Cyber Troopers (Get the hang of the controls -- or buy a set of Twin Sticks -- and you'll never put this down)

Sakura Taisen (Just like Princess Crown, worth fudging your way through even if you're not fluent in Japanese. It'll be REAL cheap over there in Japan, too. There's also a sequel if you dig it.)
Sakura Taisen Columns (Puzzle game based on the aforementioned franchise -- LOADS of fun)

Astra Superstars
Wachenroder (A cool strategy RPG that didn't make it over here... if you love Shining Force, steam punk, and don't mind a cumbersome guide on GameFAQs, this is worth checking out)

Sonic Jam (Worth the low price just to see the unbelievably gorgeous Sonic World... then the pain sets in when you realize you want it to be its own game)

You forgot Super Tempo!!!

Also, the Konami Deluxe Packs are affordable on the JP Saturn, while they are overly expensive on the PS1. There's the Gradius one (Gradius I/II), Salamander (Salamander/Life Force/Salamander 2), Parodius (the first two games (not counting the MSX one)) and Twin Bee (the weakest of the bunch, but still VERY fun). "Chatting" Parodius was also released on the system, as well as Sexy Parodius (one of my favourite shooters ever!). Darius Gaiden is another GREAT and affordable shooter. Finally, DonPachi and DoDonPachi are reasonably affordable shooters that are some of the best out there. I actually prefer them to Radiant Silvergun, and I'm not the only one. Sexy Parodius and DoDonPachi are my two favourite Saturn shooters.

Also, nobody has mentioned Daytona USA? It's cheap and INCREDIBLY fun. I prefer the original over the CE version, because of the controls and soundtrack.

I'm not really a huge shmup fan, and haven't played very much, but I have played these two and loved both of them. Are they particularly expensive at all? I wouldn't mind getting them myself.

Sexy Parodius is currently running at around $40, DoDonPachi at around $50. I would personally recommend Soukyugurentai, which you can find for around $35, but that's just me.
